Thread: Free stuff for your PA?

I was wondering how many of you folks make stuff for your PA totally for free.

Since I'm now the only SW in my guild, that makes me guild shipwright. What I didn't realize was that the old guy was doing doing everythingfor free. Making ships and components at no cost to PA members.

Now don't get me wrong, I really like my PA. I also like to be part of the team and give back what I get from the group. At the same time, the guilds I've been in have always refused free gear from crafters considering it'sour profession and source of enjoyment. Also,I'm not rich cause I don't really charge much compared to others. I just get enjoyment from the fact that people are giving me creds for what I build. The fact that they want my stuff and are willing to pay is why I keep the proffession.

I don't know if I'm wrong for charging guildies (with a discount of course) or if it's wrong that they expect me to make stuff for free.

In a way I know it's dumb because it's not like they're gonna be requesting my whole stock and overall it won't do a lot to my bottom line. It's the principle of the matter that kind of irks me.

Thoughts? I suppose I can change the way I look at it if it turns that this is the norm.

If your guild is setup so that you can go to them and say hey can I have that +25 weapons systems experimentation tape for free? then yeah I think it would be ok. When a guild provides the services of each member to each member for free then this can work out. But if they are asking you for free ship parts and not bringing you free resources, or tapes, or some other benefit, then the deal is a bit one sided.

Yeah, and that seems to describe the group I'm with atm. They seem very into providing for members. Thanks for the second oppinion.

I'm part of PA on Chilastra called -Grey Cell- and I conditionally take orders from PA members at no cost. The condition being strictly my discretion. This prevents players from joining the guild, taking advantage of the service, and subsequently quitting. For new players that have made no contribution to the PA, I typically discount them 10% (depends on my mood).

So, how can I do this? Easy. First, there are members in the guild that are occasionally willing to drop harvesters on resources. This comes in quite handy when a really rare spawn of a resource occurs. Second, they provided me with all my experimentation tapes, which would have been otherwise inordinately expensive (i.e., upwards of 60M credits). Third, all the crafters in the PA offer the same service, and while this might not be a big deal for my shipwright/DE,my alt can take advantage of these services: armor, weapons, slicing, food, stims, etc.

The bottom line is the whole should be greater than the sum of the parts. United we stand, divided we fall. And all that happy horse poop.

My deal with guild is I pretty much make em stuff at cost...whatever I bought a resource ( rarely buy resoruces tho )....or about what it took / how rare the resources I used were

or they can bring me the resources needed to make whatever they need and i'll assemble free np

only thing exempted from that policy is anything with space resources in it...I dont sell that at discount to anyone...unless they bring me the resources....I'm not gonna make 16 mining trips to space to make a full POB ship set and not be well compensated =)

I make everything for my guild for free on the condition that they give me all their space loot that they don't want - and yes, i've even been known to give back borstel disruptors, etc, as they didn't look at it first

Works out well i think, they get free ships (although i insist they get to 2-2-1-1 in the starter ship, which isn't particularly difficult!) and i get their loot, and so far my bank balance is about 80 million credits and the bulk of that is made from firespray sales at 6 million each....

It really depends on the guild. I maintain a Navy for a rather large guild. I provide all equipment for them including ships at no cost. To get accepted into the Navy you have to be recommended by a known and trusted member of the guild. I also have an armory that is a private house with all the low level equipment and ships in it. Navy members get access to this for leveling and should return the parts when they "outgrow" them. It has worked for me.

What do I get out of this? A bazillion lots at my disposal. Carpal Tunnel from REing loot. I have a loot vendor at a public house. Ocasionally, I have to explain that some one should hang on to that 35k reactor and not offer it among 40 parts in a backpack. I get all tapes free because alot of people do not want to hassle or do not use the boards. If I need something, my money is no good. I once had Ancient Bull Rancors camping my 8 harvesters on Dath. I ask for help and had 36 Uber combat guys show up withing 15 minutes.

I am probably the only Master Corsec Freelancer that can fly lead with 16 Master Storm Squadron Imperials. Now, to get them to fly in formations... That is a different story.

Have I been burned? Yes, on occasion but mostly for low level stuff. It is easy to determine a person's intentions early. When I get burned out crafting, I am known as the guy that will drop what he is doing and help with missions or leveling, that helps alot. If I have had your wing while you were leveling... Welll, alot of new guildies are very appreciative. All in all it depends on the guild.

I'd say that the only way you should consider making everything for your guild 100% for free is if they support you with everything you need to support them. I know a "guild shipwright" who tells her guild of a new resource and suddenly everyone has all their spare lots worth of harvesters on it, bringing her everything. This is a great system as long as no one takes advantage of it. My guild on Kauri is tiny but they maintain a resource house. We've never had an official agreement but if they want something and I find better resources in the guild house than I have, I use the guild stuff. I also put my extra stuff back in the guild house. I used to get asked if I had any spare lots and an actively-craftingshipwright should answer "no" to that. Just make sure you're getting out of it what you put into it.

...would master the pilot profession if the repeat mastery bug was fixed.

Just wanted to say this post is great!

Being a nuetral Shipwright for quite awhile I decided to take the leap to a guild the is fairly new so I was having trouble as to how I should feel about, discounts and such. But these ideas of what others do is perfect.

I only craft for myself and my PA, and I do it for free.

In return I have received very nice CAs from my guildies, happy to get some of my server best components for free.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand people who charge their guildies, but my goal is that all pilots in my PA be Master Alliance Pilots and this is helping thins alot.

I used to craft everything for my PA free of charge. That was only because they provided me with all the organics and inorganics I needed to make everything.

If I was to join a PA now, with all my old resources, I couldn't do that. Some of the stuff I use is valued at 25 cpu and recently, the I saw the ore I used auction off for 60 cpu.....
