Is anyone else afraid that the 5 turrets (particularly two facing forward) on the Y-8 in Publish 24 is gonna make that the ONLY multiplayer battle ship? Does anyone have any sane ideas to deal with this?

I really don't wanna see the factional 'battle cruisers' go extinct in favor of a mining ship.

Thanks for the Y-8 fixes Darth_Platypus! You guys and gals continue to impress me despite the naysayers.

Nah...the Y-8 has a serious blind spot in the rear even with the new turrets that blind spot will still be there.

I'm hoping that they will make it so that only tractor beams are in those newforward two turrets. That would solve the problem.

And yes... I do use my YT-8 for mining.

The Y-8 is also a MUCH larger target than any of the other POB ships. Personally I don't see any problem with the Y-8 getting two extra turrets that can hold weapons, and personally I would be dissapointed if they intentionally gimped it so that those new turrets could only use tractor beams. The more versatile the Y-8 is, the better it is for the game, and I definately don't see many people choosing to use it in combat over a Nova, Decimator, or YT-1300. As has already been pointed out, the smaller POB ships have more ordinance slots, the pilot has better viability, they are a significantly smaller target in space, they have better rear coverage with the guns, and they can be operated with a crew of only three vs. the five that a Y-8 would take. If anything, I'd say the Y-8 will still be underbalanced for combat compared to the other POB ships.

I'd likethe Y-8if it was useful for mining at all. Up until a guildie told me about these changes, I'd been considering selling my Y-8. Probably still will.
