Thread: Decay and PVP (A possible problem with a possible solution)

For about the two weeks I noticed a severe lack in PVP. Not because of the change in Kessel. Its because, I believe, the pilots are scared of decay. And rightly they should be. You get a sweet part, you sure as heck want it to last as long as possible. I have heard this alot in the forums and in game.
Now some have found a small work around by using their older or already damaged ships in PVP. Thats all fine and good. But there maybe a better way.
Allow shipwrights to repair ship parts and ships without a decay hit. This would keep us in the loop and at the sametime make people want to come back again and again.
Now of course the first problem is, people may not want to have to land, pull their ship off the terminals, and give it to us to repair.
So how about a repair ship. Either a new ship chassis or change that can be made to existing chassis'. Basically a medic in space if you will.
So if its a change to existing chassis there would be a new component added called a "Repair Module". Any shipwright would have the ability to add this to his or her ship. Just like a droid interface or booster. You can then load this repair module just like a launcher with repair packs (1 of each). When you see someone in need you get them to tip you money (Have to enable this in space first) then you just /dock with them and click the new found novice skill "Repair". Once the repairs are made you undock and go on your way.
Of course there is an advantage then to one side or the other in PVP to have one of these guys standing by in a battle. So we do one more thing to make sure this wont happen. Set a time limit that has to pass after combat has ended before we can repair. IE a person would have to wait up to 1 minute before they could be repaired by one of these.
If its a whole new ship chassis give it zero weapon, armor, and launcher slots. Basically like the yacht. Same rule as above. Possibly use one of the other ships we have seen in the movies that hasnt appeared in game yet. If this is added put the ship certification in the shipwright skill tree at novice. A 10k mass ship that's sole purpose is to repair other ships.
The second problem is the loss of a money sink in repairing ships by us as opposed to having a space station do it. But we can already craft the tools anyway. But no one uses them much that I have seen. And if the money sink is very important make us pay to launch, land, and "register" as a repair ship in whatever sector we are at.
By allowing us to repair parts without decay and adding a repair ship we would still get return customers and make money. At the sametime players wouldnt be so scared to enter PVP anymore.
