I've been a shipwright for little over a week, my PA got right behind me and pulled together to help me master, I spent most of my time gathering High Quality resources to make with, while my PA provided me with grind resources and credits to buy them with,
I'm now finding that I can't match many of the looted components they are getting e.g my best shield 2500 and we're finding looted shields of 3000-3500 , basically my PA wasted their credits and time as when they come to me they find I can't make kit better than they can loot.
I spent all my gametime on working to get a crafting profession, all I'm left with that's any use is the ability to combine loot to make it a little bit better and make missiles, I like to craft but why am I gathering masses of resources to make stuff that no one wants to buy? yes you need a lot of resource to master but you also need alot to run a business and I'm exclusive to one medium sized PA. I dropped my smuggling skills on the promise of a new crafting profession, I wish I'd waited.
the whole IDEA and complexity of shipwright was very attractive to someone who likes crafting , the reality is no one needs your skills. Of all those fun schematics you're pretty much left with chassis and ammunition that is any use the rest is pointless and a waste of programming hours by SOE
in a nut shell my experience of shipwright is its a waste of time my advice to anyone considering itwould bedon't bother until SOE balance it out IF they ever do.

Yes some loot is better then what we can craft.
But not for all equipment.
It is part of our job to know, where we can make betetr stuff then loot, and where we cannot.
And you should remember one thing, SW still is a very young profession, and the devs are still balancing. They made our engines stronger. They are going to make other loot engines weaker (allready anounced).
All in all, I love crafting, and for me SW is the best crafting profession I have seen so far.

Except boosters andcapacitors I am selling every component here and there. Yeah, there are some extra rare pieces of loot and those are better then components which i made, but it doesnt mather tho. Maybe you just dont know SW professionyet...

Play it longer.
If you pay attention to what you can craft, you can *easily* beat everything bar Capacitors.
And yes, there *will* be some loot that is *so* good it beats everything you can make.
Live with it. Or else it's not SW you have a problem with. It's *all* the crafting professions.

I don't mind the occassional "better than crafted" loot, but when all of the loot is better than mine...well.
Yeah, as a young profession we are still seeing balance, so I expect to see these changes continue. I'm just waiting, because I know that eventually SW will be the most crafting intense profession out there. I fully expect to see SW's speciallize in certain aspects of the profession, such as weapons or shields. I am holding out hope.

Yep I'm going to stick with it and hope it changes, but if I'd known that everything I made was replaceable by loot items, and I'm using excellent resource a lot of which I've gathered as a year of being a weaponsmith, then I would have waited until the bugs had been ironed out.
As I say I'm supporting a few players and getting good feedback, I seem to be beating most of the crafted item on my server but am finding people I make stuff for are quickly finding loot that they replace my crafted items with. I've so far come across better engines, shields, capacitators and guns than I can make with resources that have all the right numbers in all the right places.
All I'm trying to say is that at the current stage of shipwrighting people should research it very carefully before sinking all those credits and all that time resource gathering into a profession that seriously needs work.

Exactly. The nerf the author is crying for has already been implemented. You will not have 100%monopoly over all parts unfortunately. Its called balance and pleasing more prof than just one.

I personally think it was a waste of resources, to get back the $ i spent grinding and using up reources, I would have to sell about 3-500 ships, What a waste IMO.

wow it seem an awesome shield can you post the name and full stats plz?
it will be also nice to know if it was looted before or after the last patch
and last thing, as you i will not worry too much about this shield, is probably an "exeptional" or "legenrady" item, sure they exist in the game but they don't drop very frequently (for shields in particular so far i saw crafted ones outperform all loots, exept maybe in some recharge rate)

99% of all loot is easily worse than crafted.
If all the loot you see is better than what you can make then you're either:
A) A Novice SW.
B) Delusional.
C) Exaggerating things to the extreme in the vain hope that people are stupid enough to believe you.
Seriously, these "*cry* looted stuff is better than crafted" *nonsensical* posts are getting old.

250M in components sales can't be wrong
Now what are you doing wrong?
Components for the most part, are better than loot. (Blast those boosters and capacitors though)

Wh00t, 1 better item when you have a server of hundreads if not a few tho looking for items. They are not all looting items better than you can craft. Sounds like you just wanted an easy ride and this isnt it, time for you to get off the bus and go camp the bat cave every 7 hours me thinks.

I simply am not seeing all loot > all crafting that you are reporting.
Barring Capacitors and MISSIONQUEST reward engine/shield/gun.
I go through around 300 pieces of loot a day that my guild brings me and I buy. I have seen a total of 1 shield better than I can craft. No Armor. 3 Reactors.
A couple of boosters (because of total consumption to burn, NOT in speed). A couple of Guns (becausof >.80 Shields AND armor effectiveness)
And3 Engines, none since last update.
In MY opinion the ratio of better looted compared to crafted is fairly close to balanced. The combat professions need incentive too. And my sales are showing this.
I think one of the problems is people are mixing up the mission quest items with loot. They are not the same. The mission quest items are 1 time drops
that will wear out then be gone. Once you take those items out of the mix things look alot differently. There are still some areas where loot is prevelant.
Namely capacitors, light interceptor class fighter equipment, y/p/r on engines, shield/armor effectiveness on guns, level 1 droid interface. But overall, I feel we are pretty
well balanced with loot.
