Anyone else experiencing a problem where Minable asteroids become invulnerable and do not spawn the chunks?
Lately I'm having problems mining some types of asteroids because I cannot get the chunks to fly off of it. My friend is having the same problem when he tries. Usually it only affects 1 asteroid in a space zone but sometimes they all become invulnerable.

The asteroid you are mining has no more chunks left. Keep shooting it and after a few minutes it will explode and a fresh asteroid will spawn. You can then continue to blast chunks off of it.

really... I've seen them "poof" and respawn before but it never took "a few minutes" of shooting.. Ill go try that and see if I can get one to blow up.

If you get a feeling that the Asteroid is empty, or you just dont seem to be able to break any chunk off, try /Examine on it.
It will open the examine window, and you should se the Condition of the asteroid. Notice if the condition drops as you shoot at it.
If nothing happens then you either dont have RotW, dont have miningequipment installed, or you got a bug.
If it goes down, then you just keep shooting until it goes Poof, and you get a fresh new one full of your precious minerals.

As far as I know, asteroids will not spawn any more chunks when their hitpoints are below 50%.
The asteroid's hitpoints seem to vary wildly too. Some have only 1500 HP and some have more than 15000 HP. It will obviously take longer to kill off the 15000 HP variety.

yep.
This is like the old waiting-for-the-shuttle time-sink except you have no one to talk to.

I have had an asteroid that I was able to get chuncks off of up to the point that it is at 0/2000 and respawns. I think it has to do with the # of chunks you let go. I Filled my cargohold 4 times landed and returned to the same asteroid and did not let one chunk fly off. This allowed me to knock off chunks till the Asteroid respawned with out haveing any period of no chunks flying off. I only have a problem the first time I come to an asteroid now since I make sure I never let a chunk fly off with out breaking it up.

I think you're right on the number of uncollected big chunks theory. Whenever I mine by myself, I almost always chase down chunks (except when Asteroid Bandits spåwn), and I get lots of them. One time, I was mining, and some yo-yo in a YT-1300 came up and started blasting, and he would blast off 3-5 chunks at a time, and only chase down 1-2. That time the asteroid stopped spawning really early.

If the chunks reach the edge of space, they become invincible. It is stated somewhere in the mining guide.

I've had this happen even off asteroids that I personally started fresh and let no chunks get lost. (though if you dont get a chunk fast enough they poof)
I did manage to get the "invulnerable" asteroids to blow up but sometimes it took several minutes of shooting.
