No, not speed...
Anyone got over 2000f/b hitpoints on a lvl7 shield?
Just made my best ever (I think) and got:
{OK} - lvl7 Shield - 1981f/b - 9.6regen - 16671mass - 3079drain
(beats my previous 1978f/b by 3 whole points heh)
I know I could do with better Aluminum, but other resources I'm using are pretty nice. The shield above was with amazing successes on subcomponent on both f/b exp. lines, and amazing's on the main part, again, both f/b exp. lines.

The 5000 was top speed, not level 7 shields what this thread is about.

Don't think I've broke 2000 with crafted yet, but I'm about to with a lvl 7 RE'ed. Collected a few real nice Nyms shields.

My best sheilds were 1990ish with 16.5k mass and just less than 2k drain, with hardly a 10 recharge.
I have topped 2k with the rear shields in favor of slightly weaker front shields, though.

that only lasts until you load them into your ship and then they get normalized between the front and back.

Really? What does it normalize to? The average strength? The max? The min? Had no idea.

averages the front and back. It was to prevent an old exploit instead of actually fixing it they kludge patched it as per usual.
