Thread: in need of a guide to pricing my items
Like the previous poster, I agree this is different for every server. I would recommend acquiring your resources to make your items and then determining what the production is going to cost. See what the quality of that product is going to be and then you can adaquately compare your items to other SW's. No sense trying to come up with a price when you don't even know how your stuff is going to compare with the rest of the server.
The only thing to watch for here is that if you are going setting out to put out premium components, you do have to watch out for your costs. If you buy server best resources and end up paying prices that are too high, you could get hurt.
On my server, I sell my items for 30-40 cpu, which admittedly is very high compared to most people. They're probably THE highest prices on the server. However, because of the lack of premium quality items I sell quite a good number of units. I just raised prices due to a higher cost in resources. I was worried about being able to sell them for the higher price but there was really no way to know without just putting them out there and see if they get taken. When I saw they were selling regardless of this price I bought an insane amount of resources to lock in those prices for as long as possible.
Your first month or so there is going to be a lot of trial and error. Eventually you will find the right prices for your items. Keep notes on them. Track how much something sells at one price compared to another, etc. It's just being a good business person. If you are charging 25 cpu for two items and one isn't selling, lower the price if you can. If it's flying off the shelves you can probably charge more.
Unfortunately you can't know these things until you get out there and sell units. The market is the market and only the market can decide what you should be charging. Just listen to your sales numbers and go with the market.
Hope this helps.
