Thread: Critical Failures...

I'm MSW with no tapes, new insp buff, in a research city, with a > +44 station, and yet, I still get Critical Failures from time to time (around 1 out of every 30-40)on experimentation. The majority of my experiments are great successes with an Amazing 1 time out of about 5 or 6. Is this typical of what all of you are getting? Any suggestions on howto increase my Amazings and get rid of my Critical Failures? I know that isn't too bad on Critical Failures, but for every Critical Failure, I have a product I just assume throw away, especially on Reactors where I only have 10 pts experimentation.


Currently, I'm looking for tapes and it will be a long time before I decide to get Force assistance.



*edit: It seems like the Criticals are more frequent when I making something where I only have `10 pts instead of 15. This is where I get the most frustrated.

Ya, the only time I have problems is making capacitors it seems like.... Doesn't happen very often, but when it does, I usually step away and do something else for a while.

I noticed I had a higher rate of failures and partial successes making armor, but I figured it was the number generators getting clogged with lag yuck... Either that or god hates me.

For something expensive, like a Firespray, anything using asteroids, or a special order, I drink Bespin Port.

I get my share of critical failures. I should probably move my shop to a research center.

glad to know I'm not alone. So now the question is.... what kind of successes or failures do you get with CA's and / or force skills? Is there anything past Amazing Success that I don't know about? How about Failures, do they ever go completely away? What are the minimum mods needed for this?


Side note: does anyone notice a change between a great and amazing success upon assembly? I swear I don't see a change.I only see thedifference when experimenting.

I get alot of Critals on Level 1, 3 & 5 items in general.
Cargoholds also crits alot.

Nothing pains me more than to crit on any component that uses asteroid resources. OK, maybe a crit while experimenting mass on a Firespray would pain me more.

My shipwright character drinks bespin port and scoffs pyrollia cakes on 99% of the stuff I make. By all accounts he should be a massive drunk bloke by now

Saying that I can't really remember the last time I got a critical build failure. I recall getting a few expermentation ones but I didn't use bespin port when they happenend (was either full up or had ran out of the stuff *hic*)

Oh my town is a Research Center and I get SW buffs before building these days

I have a maxed out suit, in a research city, have food and drink, and very good equipment/resources. I still get them and I also destroy any part that gets less than a great success. When I start to notice that I am getting increased less than great results, I destroy the the tools I am using and get new ones. Like others I have more of a problem with the componets mentioned and the level 2 and 3 components.

I'm still collecting tapes myself, but I do live in a Reasearch Center and have a great Station, and I get the rare critical fail. My method:


1. I don't try and keep a droid stocked with crazy amounts of crafted items. I'm more of a 1 on 1 MSW that crafts a masterpiece for my clients. ( I have a small, yet very loyal client list)


2. I eat Pyollian cake before I assemble.


3. I drink Bespin Port when I experiment.


4. (new) I *always* get the SW-specific Inspiration buff.


I craft a piece or two and take a break and do something else so my food and drink bars drop back down. That seems to keep me from having more than 1 or 2 critical fails every couple of weeks.

I seem to have more crit failures during experimentation on reactors, capacitors, and armour. If I'm looking to experiment fully on any one stat on those components, I tend to either go point-by-point or 3-4-3 (or any alternating increment). It's something I observed when I was an architect ages ago while crafting harvesters and seems to help reduce the failures immensely on ship parts for me as well. Could be superstition or just luck of the draw (I haven't actually done any statistical analysis on this at all...just casual observation), but I don't mess with success


CAs seem to be helping on armour, at least, but I have no idea why. Since putting together the suit, I have yet to fail while crafting armour at all. Caps and reactors, though...no change observed with the suit on. I don't have any FS skills, so I can't comment on that.
