Little searching turns up it is part of the Nyms Starmap Quest.

Yeah that's what that sounds like to me too. The parts from that quest aren't exactly the best either. They have huge mass and usually crappy stats. I think though that the weapon you get (last mission of the quest) is not too bad. It has a little over 3k max damage. But I'm not familiar with how high SWs can make that particular weapon yet. So, it might be an average weapon and then again it might be pretty good. Also the engine you get from the quest might be ok as well since the top speed is 88.5 for a level 8 part. Again, not extremely sure if it's a great part or crappy. Everything else though I think even level 6 SW made stuff would top these other parts.

That's not accurate. The Protecto-Net shielding is a reward from Nym's Star Map quest, and while it'sa L8 part, it RE's at L7.
The biggest problem with the thing is it's a reward item, and the stats on it are dynamic. You might find one with 2k front and 1.4k rear protection, and then you'll need to see if you can score a second piece with reversed protection. It's not easy. The RE'd set I have has 2100+ front/back protection with a recharge of 14, and low-end L7 mass. In other words it's the absolute perfect piece to toss into a Heavy variant of the Z-95, TIE fighter, etc.
By the way, the weapon you're talking about can go over 4k damage, you also get a nice L8 armor slab, the engine has various speeds but it can top 100 pre-RE. And uh, Shipwrights make odd-level items, not even.
Oh, I thought it being a reward item that it had a set stat and everyone getting the item gets the same stat. Now that I know this, this will be something to look forward to whenever I'm able to RE that high.
I could've sworn SWs could make any level part. And no, I'm no where near master sw so I have no idea what the profession is like as you can very well tell.
