I apologize ahead of time if im duplicating an effort.
IDEA: Each ship chasis has a unique modifier (bonus) to a ship system. Example: X-Wing = Enhanced damage output, YT-1300 = Enhanced Shields, Firespray = Increased Rate of fire, and so on.
It could be experimented on during creation ( using the desperatly worthless Chassis experimentation skill ).
Players could adjust their preference or use of ships based on their innate strenghts.
Very basic in concept, but thought I'd toss it out there.

This would be a great idea if the less used chassis got the more desired mods, like the Y-wing getting the improved damage.

BTW, the worthless chassis experimentation skill is what allows you to experiment the mass on the chassis. There is a few ships that don't care about mass (namely the PoB ones) but I would hardly say the Chassis experimentation skill is worthless.
Oh, it's used for armor too...

Ohhhhh! I tried looking in the FAQ but couldn't find it:
If Chassis Experimentation also works on armour.
What do the Weapon Systems and Engine experimentations ones relate to?
Cheers

How about the Y-Wing getting better manuverability instead? The Y-Wing Longprobe does nasty damage right now, not exactly a nimble ship however.

The Y-wing is a bomber, it shouldn't be nimble.
We are talking about something that may give you an incentive for piloting some underused ships, not about something that negates the inherent maluses of the chassis. If you can experiment a 150K mass ship to have the same maneuverability than a 60K mass ship, who would fly an A-wing? (I bet there's somebody out there that still flies the A-wing).

Chassis experimentation: Chassis, Armor and Armor subcomponents
Engine experimentation: Engine and Engine subcomponents (no boosters)
Weapon Systems experimentation: Weapons (the Tractor Beam is a weapon) and Weapons subcomponents, Countermeasures (launchers and packs), Ordnance (launchers and packs)

Cheers /tipHat
Was hoping one of them worked on shields and the weapon systems helped with capacitors

You'll never see this for one important reason: balance. The devs feel that this is their control to keep the space game balanced. However, many pilots would argue otherwise with the introduction of the quest reward ships by RotW.
