Here it is, really simple!
1: Go to Kasshyyyk! You must launch into space and Hyperspace there.
2: Head to the giant Tree, on the 1st or 2nd level is a pilot named Flash. He starts the mission.
3: Go to Dearic, Talus. In the Cantina talk to Thom Steele. He sends you into space.
4: Run a Space Patrol Mission.
5: Return to Thom on Talus.
6: Get your Small Starfighter CargoHold (500unit cap.) and Mark I Mining Laser!!

Load the Hold into it's own slot, and place the Mining Laser into a weapon slot. Launch into space and find a Resource Astroid using the WP's in your Datapad.
Fly in and blast a small chunk off the Resource Astroid, using the Mining Laser! Target the chunk and keep blasting the smaller peices to gather the Resource!
Access your Cargo Hold through your Datapad, using the Control Device for the starship you have set up for mining!
