Now wehave 16 Texture kits and a paint kit! We currently have more variety there than any other catagory in our profession. Clearly our job title is mislabeled, it should be changed to MasterBody Shop Paint Mixers or Stardock Airbrushers or Spaceballs! (err...) Of course we run a side hobby business of assembling components and chassis (gottaoffer something for our customers to put the pretty textures and paint on after all )

I concur with this issue. I have proposed in several threads that the devs put an end to this madness and collapse all these damn texture kits into a single item called "Texture Kit". A player buys it, applies it to their ship resulting in a dialog box that presents them with visuals of what their ship would look like as a result of each option. The player chooses from this list of visuals, clicks OK, and whah-lah. Simple for shipwrights. Simple for pilots. I would even concede to the texture kit becoming more complex if the devs did this. After all, vehicle and droid customization kits are not nearly as simple to make as our paint and texture kits.

This answer makes way too much sense, maybe I could actually sell some texture kits off my vendor if people could buy one and choose as opposed to the rather archaic system we have now where you're not sure what you're gonna get from ship to ship.
