Ok everyone, we all know that RotW will provide space mining. There's a bit more information in the interview about it, but the thing that jumps out at me is converting the resources into special crafting resources. These resources are not replacing existing resources, but there will be schematics and recipes that require these space resources. Now, assuming that we will be able to craft all the new/modified ships, who wants to bet that we'll have to use space resources in crafting those ships?

Space Mining will be revealed and taught to players through a series of quests. The gameplay itself is simple enough: find an asteroid, blast the heck out of it, and gather the resources that fly off. We are shooting for a really fun, simple arcade experience here. At higher levels (in higher level space zones), you’ll start to see Mining Pirates show up to compete with you for the resources – so you’d better be prepared for some dogfighting. The resources you get can either be traded in for fast cash at mining stations around the galaxy or converted into special crafting resources that you can only get in space. These resources will not replace any existing resources, but there will be specific schematics and recipes that require you to have space resources to make.

They will probably be used in a few of the loot/quest schematics for RotW, not just shipwrights' chassis. I have no problem with this, I'd rather have to go blow up a rock (which I try to do already
) then try to get a super rare loot component. Or would you perfer to have to be required to get Royal Guard Red Paint for a uber hard dungeon, similar to needing power plants for the AV-21?

I'm thinking it will be "components" for some new ship(s). A lot like how RIS works with AS.

That's the same thing I thought when I read the article. Note that there's a required quest to get to space-mining, though, so it's still unclear as to what it'll take to get to blow up those rocks.

or......maybe........for the other "new' thing in the expansion, cybernetic limbs. I already know DEs wont be making those, you get to visit an NPC for them, want to see a bunch of disgruntled players? Visit the DE forum.

And the Doc forum. Not only do DE's not get to make them, only NPC docs can attach them.
This whole "Downgrade" is just the beginning of loosing all the crafting classes completely. Soon, you will have NPC tailors that you tell what clothing and what colour, NPC Ship vendors, NPC Architects....oh, and did I mention that with all the canceled accounts, including the powergamers who will have no one left to gank and irritate, you will also have NPC characters to buy all this stuff.
A self sustaining game, with that, who needs players...oh, wait...um...

This part wouldn't make sense because you couldn't make the ships to mine withoutfirst having the resources that you need to make those ships. Kind of like pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps.

Well, remember that they have said that you can retrofit any ship to be able to mine, if I remember correctly. And remember that learning to mine is quest based, so they might give you some sort of "mining kit" for one of your previous ships. This allows you to learn how to mine without needing any of the new resources.
Hmm, since learning space mining is quest-based, this makes me think that it is possible you will have to finish it before being certified for the POB mining ship. That, or that's how you get the schematic for the thing. Interesting thought, at least to me.
