Thread: How to design a ship? A helpful tool

Hi there,

since I entered JTL Beta, I was constantly fighting with the slight problem of what kind of equipment might fit into my ship. I started to use some simple tables, just adding up the values of the equipment at hand. When doing this, I figured that this would most likely not really do for life, as I would neither have indefinete ressources nor would I be able to go shipwright, considering the amounts of ressources needed.

However what I could do, was collect the statistical data, how all the components might be in average, once made. With that data, it will be possible to at least roughly design a ship and its components, allowing to place a more or less precise order with a shipwright on the live server. In addition to this, the tables could also provide an overview on the amount of ressources needed to actually manufacture all parts of the particular ship and by this could also generate a price on the ship, based on CPU ressource prices.

With progressing versions I now also introduced a lookup table for how the ressource stats will effect the outcome, as well as a table, where a shipwright-to-be may enter his own ressources to see how they would probably work out, when crafting spaceships and spaceship-components.

For all those interested in how their favorite ship or simply the first 1-1-0-0 pilot ship would look like, feel free to download, the little tool I created. You will however need a more or less current version of Microsoft Excel in order to be able to use it, as it is an Excel file. (And yes, I do have an MS Office license.)

If you have ideas, questions or comments, feel free to pass them on.

Thanks again Deus. I am working on a web-based version, now. But the transferal of the date is living hell, so that will take a while untill you can click your ship together.

Hello, I just came back to the game after six months away. I decided to try being a shipwright. I was wondering what complimentary skills I will need to make all of the components. I used to have a Master WS and DE so I have a good understanding of crafting in general. I'm assuming I'll need to master Artisan but what about DE or Architect? Will I need to learn any skills in those professions? This looks like a daunting task but I'm upto the challenge. Thanks

Engineering 4 is all you need. DEs can make the flight computers. And you may want to get a droid with a starship crafting station functionality.

But thats about it.

Actually the shipwright is almost totally independend. Only flight computers and astromech droids are made by a droid engineer. Anything else, the shipwright can make himself. But with all those Yavhts coming into game, waiting to be furnished, I daresay Architect might be a question of choice for the next period of time.

Very nice tool, thanks. Architect or maybe resource dealer for all the people who want to become shipwrights.

I'm still trying to find one that will also show the maneuvering and speed each chassis has. Anyone have an general info that they could pass on?
