What effects how much damage you do to shields/armor?
I've seen guns with a high percent on one or the other stat, and I've seen them with equal stats. Just wondering what effects this as I have not made any weapons yet.

There are seperate experimentation lines for armor & shield effectiveness.

Ions = shield damage
disruptors = armor damage
blasters = equal
Each has a use, and you can boost them even further through sub components and experimentation. A heavy Ion cannon will do more damage to shiled per shot than an Advanced blaster, but you will have to switch weapons once the shilds are down because it will do almost no damage to armor. Vice versa for the disruptor.

Ahh, I get it. Hence, REing a disruptor with an Ionn makes a weapon that's superior vs everything, yes?

For my guildmates I set them up with an Experimental Ion and an Experimental Disruptor. Both have .7+ on either shield OR armor, .3 on the other. When fired together in the Oppressor (for us Imp's!) it makes a VERY effective comb weapon against ships. Crafted I get these to 3,870 Max Damage and around 2,000 min damage.
On the RE side, if you can handle the mass issue, you can get some pretty high vs shields and armor values. I have seen Level 2 weapons up over .9 on each. On the high end the best I have seen is a Level 10 weapon I RE'd that hit .84 and .83 on shields and armor. Max dam was around 4,700. I run this in combo on my Oppressor. With 80K tied up in two weapons I don't have much room for armor!
