I posted this in the Flurry forum and got some response....for which I am greatful.....I am a novice shipwright, also almost a master artisian..from what I have been told I will never make any money from the shipwright profession. Is it true? If so what are some ways in the early days of my career to make money? I have several large harvesters now and have found some really good oc resources. I am currently harvesting (because I have no choice). I guess what I am asking here....is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Will it pay off to make it to the top?

I wouldn't say you'll never make any money from the profession - you may not make a fortune, but you should be able to make a reasonable profit.

Find out what is selling at the moment - paint kits, repair tools, missiles and other consumables should have a steady market.
You also need to use your master artisan schematics too - you'll always have a market for those items from armoursmiths and architects.

You might also be able to make cash by scouring the bazarre for cheap loot, reverse engineer it and then sell the crap stuff to the chassis vendor, and set up your own vendor with the decent stuff at a high price.

Shipwright is going through some growing pains I would say- no one really knows exactly how sustainable the profession is just yet. Demand has died down and lots of SW's are leaving because it's unprofitable for them. Stay away from selling chassis, make a name for yourself as a quality ship component maufacturer, get some word-of mouth advertizingand you might have a shot. But you won't be a rich man overnight, its work any way ya slice it.

Shipwright is NOT a money making profession. I'm a lvl 3 shipwright on Starsider and harvesting my own resources. It is a long grind and the resource demand is extremely heavy. Your best bet for making money is in harvesting high quality resources and selling those resources to those who are grinding out the crafting professions, whether they are shipwrights or not.

The ONLY reason I got into SW was to craft my own components for my fighters. And that's tough because I'm finding looted parts (in general) outperform crafted parts. Once I get a ship or two decked out and am fully happy with them, I don't see staying shipwright for long.

He's right, if it is money you want keep the harvestors going and sell the resources. On intrepid it looks like the most you will get is 3-5 cpu for ships. If you harvest good resources you can easily get 10+ cpu for them. Even grind quality goes for 3 cpu on intrepid (so your results may vary)

I tend to agree with the others. I'm 2/2/2/2 shipwright. I used to be able to sell starter ships but not any more. People are buying Y-Wing/Lp s on my server, but not enough to make a big profit on. Missiles and chaff seem to be the money makers. Other than that put a harvester on radioactives and one on a resource you can sell, the other eight go on SW resources with a 4 on steel, 2 on aluminum and 2 on inert chem. That'll get you grind resources. Most of the guildies were able to power grind SW on my server thus putting us slower people at a major disadvantage. I'm not in it to sell parts though, I just want to be able to make my own ships and parts .

Collect and sell your resource is the best way to make money.

You will not be able to sell many components until you are Master Shipwright. The people with the money want high quality since only highest quality is better than the loot (despite for capacitators). But even at low level you can make money with Chaffs, Missiles, Paint and Texture Kits and RE parts.
Once you hit master, have get a shop near Coronet and make a bit advertisement you can make some millions a week, sometimes even more. It will then depend on how much time you are willing to spend at your crafting station since only sub components can be produced in factories.

I've made roughly about 15 million so far. Primarily my sales come from Chassis.

Stick with it, and like some other posters have said find a nich. I tried the hull business and decided not to stock hulls for more than month. It's a huge drain on your resources for such a low cpu .So I decided tospecialize in ship components, and some missles, as well as other consumables. I made a name for myself by being in my shop which is near cornet most of the time I was on that character. I would be there to greet customers and find out what they are looking for, and help them to understand the differences between ship parts. I think this is the main reason why we will never see further factory support. There are so many ways to craft components . It makes it a more hands on profession with the customer.

With that said, I've done pretty well for myself. I've probably made over 100million since JTLS launched, but gave about 30 mil of that back to resource gatherers and buying ship loot. I'm a sucker for high quality resources and just too damn lazy to harvest alot of stuff myself anymore. So I let my guildmate make money off me and they charge me 4cpu for my requests on specific resources.
