I hope I'm not too late to commnet...

After keeping track of loot drops for quite a while it became quite clear that for Boosters, Capacitors and Engines the even/odd problem made player created components uncompetitive. For Boosters and Capacitors, switching the tables for even/odd components would have put the sequence of "higher is better" back in line and solved the player crafted item issue. For engines, the numbers just had to be readjusted.

I am certainly not against tweaking the numbers for player made levels. But because of the imbalance that the existing system has with higher is better I could see the changes causing other kinds of balance problems as the "space" between the levels gets tinkered with.

DP one question I have
about comparing engines/capacitors to equal level loot is a fear we had
all along. Its a commonly known fact that even level loot (example
level 6) is vastly superiior to anything we can craft that is level 7.
However, the level 7 version loot completely sucks for stats. We have
always assumed it was a copout to be able to say 'see, we didnt short
change you SW's. A level 7 engine is far superior to a level 7 looted
engine. Pay no attention to that level 6 engine that leaves anything
you can craft in the dirt'. While doing this balance pass
can you make sure that not only is it better than anything of the same
level but can you check the even level below it as well?

Aha,
I already took the even level loot into account when balancing---my
general process in doing this was for each pair of certs (1 and 2, 3
and 4, etc), I found the best base stats and tweaked my numbers in
accordance with that.

In summary, your crafted stuff should be balanced against the even level stuff

Thanks.

Man.. before this patch comes out, you better warn the populace to take to the bomb shelters, lest they all be deafened by the collective shouts of joy of shipwrights galaxywide.

What's the status on the Y-8, like all of it's bugs and the "interior" problem keeping us from using it if we have our yachts and a master cert MP ship?

Which will be drowned out by the cry of disgust that they will NEVER be able to make the best chassis in the game.

Yea, thanks Devs.

Pilots too. You think I like blowing things up ad infinitum so I *might* get a good engine or capacitor, when I've got a reliable shipwright who wants to sell me one? Give me player crafted any day.

Dp,

I think the number one thing people are going to ask you in regard to engines is will YPR get a boost? We can do very well on speed, thanks to earlier adjustments , but YPR is where crafted engines seem to need the most help.

I looked these numbers over, and it appears they were inferior to looted components of similar levels. I have boosted the YPR numbers for all crafted engines to what seem like more appropriate levels. Coming soon to a patch near you!

Thanks

Any chance on having you COMBINE the YPR for the purposes of Experimentation? With only 15 points to spend... it's such a let down to pump 10+ points into a SINGLE Y, P, or R range and STILL find that it's inferior to looted engines. It would be very nice if you'd not only bump the range, but also let us experiment just once and have it affect all 3. There are still a ton of other areas where we will have to choose where to spend the remaining points, and this would help a great deal.

yay! ... hehe ... now while you are at it .. make an occasional drop be an 'exceptional' subcomponent that can be used in the crafting of a peice by a shipwright to give it exceptional stats .. (like krayt, gorax etc for weaponsmiths)

Looks like patch day tomorrow is a good day for shipwrights, if you have not seen it, I've updated the lead post on this thread with some good news.
