Thread: Responses to complaints about shipwrights

Great post.
I actually had a guy start off the conversation today with "I know all shipwrights are gouging, but can you make me a Dunelizard for 17k?". Things were kind of rocky after that.
That's when you say, "Yeah, um... NO!"
Do I think we're gouging? Nope... it's what the market will handle, hence, it's the right price.

I only charge 5 cpu for the chassis but the components are charged at a higher rate more like 10-15 cpu. The market is what it is if you don't want to pay those prices don't buy them. The prices will come down if people don't find them reasonable. The most underrated thing in this game for crafters is their Real Life time. Crafting compnents by hand takes a lot of time. You should be paid for that.
Amen to that! A lot of folks just don't realize how much of this trade is hand-crafted. There is no "Uber Template", there is no "Perfect Recipe". The level of custom work required is huge.
I have only been building stuff for guild-mates and even that takes a lot of my time, considering a full "package" for someone you're looking at like 16+ items, easy. Eventually I'll get into a more mass-producing mode...at the very least, stuff like Missiles, Countermeasures, Paint Kits, etc. Perhaps Chassis and components up through Mark II maybe...higher than that I may go Custom-order Only, just to reduce the required outlay of resources for something that may or may not move quickly on a vendor.
I will say, this profession is a breathe of fresh air. I hope they don't mess with it too much. I especially hope they Never Ever add Skilltapes for SW. I think they have ruined most all of the other Crafter Trades, IMHO.
That made me chuckle out loud, heh. I can picture myself doing the same thing.

I had a monkey asking me to make a top notch level 5 reactor last night. Said he would only pay 5k for it. Needless to say he got bored of the continuous /rofl and walked off swearing. I had a good night
