Thread: Harvester Lot Swaps and RE'd components market
Even I personally don't have many lotes to spare. I have a large house which is my pride and joy and takes up 6 lots. I'd like to keep at least 1 multiplayer ship for an additional lot. I need a source of power, which takes another lot. That leaves me with only 2 lots for harvesters, and it means that I won't be able to own a shop. Getting 6 million resources through 2 harvesters will take a very, very long time.

I agree with your views pretty much to a tee. I really don't want to be an exploiter, but I really see it as the only viable alternative in my situation. In summary-I'm unguilded and don't intend to join a guild. I've always valued my independence and self-sufficiency, and think it fits my character well. I like being able to say that I got where I am with my own sweat and blood, and didn't receive handouts from anyone. That, and I don't want to give away free services
I'm not horribly wealthy, and my current setup as a pilot/shipwright doesn't leave me much means to be. I thought that I'd be able to buy resources, grind chassis, and sell those chassis at a reasonable price. However, I haven't been able to sell a single chassis in my grind so far, and my money and resources are dwindling. Buying the 6 million (?) resources to get me to master isn't going to be viable, especially with grind-quality steel going for 5 cpu.
This is about hard choices. I can see, why it is easier to trade lots then to live without them. My char does not have a large house. Neither did I activate the veteran reward yet. Because I need all the lots I can get to get resources.
Sure, I would enjoy having a larger house. It just is not viable for me.
But after this has been named an exploit by the devs, would not be terribly surprised if there was a patch one of these days that makes lot trading less interesting or even impossible. Not an easy endeavor.
But then, judging from the test patch notes, solo groups will too be going away very shortly.

I bought the harvesters, paid the maintenance, paid the energy. All money from me, into the economy. The characters made just for the lot trade simply popped in, placed my equipment, and left. How is that a drain on the economy? They had no effect that I can see. Maybe I'm just being dense. I'm sorry that it's an exploit. I don't want to be an exploiter. I just want to be able to play the game and have fun. If we had more lots to ourselves, or resource requirements weren't so high, things like this wouldn't be necessary, for some of us. Of course, all I'm really doing at this point is defending myself, because I feel kinda guilty now, but can't see myself giving up on the lots. I'll just use them, but won't do anymore lot trades. I'm just going to have to try some of the alternative means mentioned. Thanks, everyone, for your input, and for being nice about it.Btw. No one seemed interested in my concept of the purpose of looted components..../shrug^_^
I think you're looking at the credits, but forgetting that credits aren't the only sort of wealth available. Resources are wealth, too. You convert resources into valuable items... therefore the resources themselves have value. the server is designed to have a rough amount of resources/credits incoming from each person playing. It's also designed to have, because those people play normally, a certain amount of resources and credits passing back OUT of the system. But the lot-swap characters don't play. they generate the resources like any other character (more, actually, since they don't use lots for anything else) but they don't partak in any of the activities that pass wealth out of the system, creating an imbalance. A small one, individually, but collectively it's huge.
As far as looted components and RE... it just seemed less-important. We pretty much all run vendors with RE'd loot and all that.
