Do you offhand remember the NAME of the shield? It appears to me through analyzing my own loot collection, that certain items are MUCH better than others in particular stats.
Thousands of parts looted, and I finally found a lvl 8 with a 24k mass.... a 12k mass on an 8 and not re'd is just plain insane! *drools* Oh how nice it would be... 
I've not documented the actual names of the exceptional parts, but I think it's the actual levels also... For instance, level 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10's produce the most desirable capacitors, lvl 8's give extraordinary reactors, etc...
If this sounds odd, tell me, have you ever noticed the stats on odd level # capacitors? Horrible....9 out of 10 Level 2 capacitors I loot have better stats than Level 9's...lol
