Thought I would share my own ship chassis story of the day. I had a noob ask me how much for a Z95. I told them 20k (4 cpu). They sent me an email order for one. Then after I made it they said they didn't have 20k and want to know if I will trade it for a dewback. I know the guy is new and all but this gets old.

I will see his dewback and raise one broken talascope.

Im a mainly guild SW and i even tell my guildies to go buy a chassis. I dont feel like carrying around crap resources. So i just explain that making chassis is a total pig. I deck out there ships with parts for free so they can get over having to buy a ship to put them in.

But of course i make all my own chassis because i must have every last tiny drop of mass..........that extra 50 mass may come in handy one day

I charge 10 cpu for SW stuff (based on everyone on my server jacking up the resource prices when JTL came out), which explains why I have never sold a YT-1300 (for 1.5 million).

The only one I ever made my alt took as soon as he made Master Pilot. I think from now on I will follow the advice here and use junk resources for ships, and cut my ship prices in half (the other stuff sells fine at 10 cpu)

I'm nearly a master SW now, and since people are willing to pay 300k for a crate of artisan blob candy or crispic on Starsider (about 240 cpu for the crispic, 500 or thereabouts for the Blob Candy as sold by one of the more advertised merchants), I intend to charge about 750cpu for master level ships made by this elite profession. I'll use only the best resources I can, and since on Starsider really great resources sell now for 100 - 500 cpu, I should be able to bring the final cost of my YT-1300 (and similar ships) at around...

112,500,000 credits each.

This might be an uphill climb though since people currently whining about 3cpu pricing for chassis. For whatever reason, blob candy is more valuable to them. At this point, I already know that making chassis isn't worth it, since the better chassis are quest given and the time/resource costs to make chassis make it more worthwhile to just resell the raw resources, make components (at least those that are not better when RE'd), or to make blob candy.

Everyone says to "use your crappiest resources" for POB ships, and chassis in general. The biggest problem is, if I were to go after crappy resources I'd need to take my harvesters off the other (good) resources I've been harvesting, or else buy the resources to make their chassis. Those are 10k stacks of resources, not something we can use our leftover scraps on. I tell noobs if they bring me the resources I'll make their ship for free, or if they bring me 150k of decent steel or another resource I can use...

I see people using experimentation on mass for POB ships. I'd use it all on chassis HP first, then on mass. 4.9 mil vs a little over 5 mil....no big difference and all the useful POB parts add up to about 3.5 in my experience. I just don't see the need to add more mass as you already get more than you need. More chassis points on the other hand will make the ship last longer.

I was under the impression that at master pilot you essentially get a decay-free repair simply by going to deep space and then hypering out... so I don't bother with experimenting chassis HP.

You do get a free repair by hitting deep space, but there are times you're at the dath station and you can either limp off to the deep space station with an almost dead engine or repair up and go help your friends kill their vette. And if your engine and reactor are DEAD, you need to repair a little bit just to get moving again....so it's not 100% freedom from decay, and my point was that on a POB ship you're not likely to use up all the available mass....and there's only one other line of experimentation to play with, so I add it where it'll do the most good, then add the rest to mass.

850k might be a little much for some people when they sell for around 500k many times. I got my nova with 3k+ HP and 5mil mass for 400k. but so long as people dont shop around and buy it you should be fine.
