I wouldn't mind factories if all schematics had a skill based 10-15% drop (worsening) in item statistics.

This way if you want 'a ship' a ship in a bag is a good deal. It's cheap and you can find them anywhere because they were stamped out of a machine.

But if you want a top of the line Arena pvp ship... well you're going to have to handcraft it.
