If you want allot of storage for less lotsuse medium or small houses, those take up 1 lot and store up to 200 items. Large houses or pa halls are a waste of lot space.

I like being able to modify my own ship on the fly. Your able to tweak your ship out in every way concievable- you have total control over all its numbers. Lets say I have extra mass that hasnt been filled up I can rebuild the generator or something to be more durable minus some generation rate. I dont have to spend a couple hours hunting down a customer friendly SW who does customizations I just land and tweak it myself. If your a pilot having MSW is great. For one you know whats good and what not to build, Two you'll have access to a ship that cant be blown up by AI unless there multiple T5 gunships.
As far as having a vendor goes, I surrendered that and my vendor is now right out of the SP in Mos Entha. I dont make millions but I eat well.

most efficient houses are medium ones....for only 2 lots you get 300 items.....large houses arn't worth it cause they cost 5 lots
just my opinion but you get 600 storage for 4 lots as opposed to 500 storage for 5 lots..or has this changed?

Job? Pfft. I took up Shipwright just to make my own stuff and to reengineer when I wanna
I only sell stuff on the side to provide what I can.
All of what everyone above has said is true. Lots of resources, lots of focus and lots of time.
All those things are requirements for the shipwright profession.
But if you are a pilot, well, the shipwright profession will make you that much better. ONCE YOU GET THE HANG OF IT.
Read the forums, check out the bazaar, see whats out there. Combining loot/crafting makes you A) a formidable pilot, equipment wise and/orB) gives you a wide range of products to offer your customers.
Just some thoughts.
