Thread: Stop the Whining!
That's about how I see it as well; any modification to the current factory situation would open a can of worms in unforseeable directions. Personally I'm quite happy with the way factory production works right now (though one observation I have seen that I like is that armour plates be made factory-able, since they are very simple and expendable, like missile packs). All this ground has already been covered in the factory-or-not debate sticky though.

As for factories, I personally think it would be incredibly retarded to purchase a crate of 10 ship chassis. Maybe that's just me. The only way I'd support factories is if they followed on a suggestion I saw before and made all factory-crafted major components some 15-25% worse than the hand-crafted one, so that cheap low-quality mass-produced stuff and high-end hand-tuned equipment would be in a different ballpark.
I don't know if this idea would really fly or not. Because if you did it for SW you'd have to do it for everyone. My other proff is Archetect, and while most of the components for Arch don't really have a quality, the OreMining Unitsand Turbo Fluidic Pumps do. Not only that, they HAVE to be from factory crates. It's hard enough to make Quality BER 13 Harvesters as it is. If you put a 15-25% drop in quality there would never be anything about a BER 12 or BER 11 anywhere except the ones that were done before it was implemented.
I know that many other Professions are that way as well.

Some responeses: I very clearly stated that I udnerstand this vaires on every server, however the "miner" is the most popular profession in the game. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of resource vendors per server, THEY ARN'T ALL CHARGING 10 CPU!

There are three topics that are absolutely driving me insane. Every time I sign on to teh SW forums there are usualy a slew of posts that were either started as or became a cry fest about: loot components, resource prices, and factory support. I am sick of it as these are largely minor problems if problems at all:
Resource Prices: LOOK AROUND. stop buying resources at 10 cpu, I have never, ever in my entire time playing this game payed more than 5cpu for any resource and I am also a WS. Since I became a SW I haven't paid more than 3 cpu, it barely affects exp anyway so why bother. Are some miners gouging, yes, so DON'T BUY FROM THEM. I have half a dozzen vendors just on Naboo i frequent where I can get everything I need for under 3cpu. I know this varies by server, but not this much, so that every server other than intrepid has absurd resource prices. Oh by the way mine your own steel, its what we use the most, mine it yourself and it costs abou .7 cpu.
do you know how HARD it is to find those cheap resources? EVERYONE gouges. we also only get 10 lots at about 8k of the resource a day per miner on a good spawn. and if you HAVENT BEEN TO EVERY SERVER THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN TALK ABOUT THIS!!!! those cheap vendors get stripped fast theres almost no way to keep up.
Loot parts: If they are so much better stop selling them to chassis dealers and SELL THEM YOURSLEF! I do about 1/4 of my business off of RE'd loot components. Only put stuff that is better than waht you can make and price it appropriately. An engine with teh speed of a mark 4 that is level 3 gets priced at the price of a mark 4. Best thing abotu doing this is that you don't have to actively restock these, when you RE sell the good stuff and dump the rest on the chassis dealer. Your customers won't expect you to be fully stocked with loot stuff, however they will come back periodically to check to see what you added.
the only thing is no one wants to buy those RE'd components unless its the same price or cheaper than what the NPC will pay!
Factory support: ITS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! Our corrospondent's poll showed that the majority of us don't even want it, something I agree with. If your selling to much, two things to remember, your making a crapload of money. Secondly, if you really want to sell less raise your prices.
HA! HAHA! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAA!!! i agree with the guy who did this with the red text. theyve said this about ALOT of things..look at them LOL.
This profession rocks, leave it the way it is.
Ok I'm done.

That can change in the near future. As soon as more people play also JTL, the market will raise. Also will the SW. I only use two vendors in my shop. One for the blueprints and the other for the components. I don't sell many blueprints. I sell more components. But still, I don't have to restock them each and every day.
If I'm in the mood and have the necessary resources, I craft some new components. But I try to move my crafting to specific ordering and personal contact with my customers. I will take myself the time to spend 20 minutes to craft a whole ship with every wished part, I get asked for.
The more personal the contact is, the more satisfied my customer will be.
About the resources.. there is a small problem with it. I also harvest as many resources as I am able to. But there seem to be some real 'miners' out there. I can be very happy, when I find a good spot with a good type of resources. I spend more time to find such spots, than I spend time to craft or flying some missions. That is one thing which ****** me off.
cheers

I agree. as SW's we dont need to monopolize 100% of the field in ship components. Let it stay 50/50. Stop demanding 100% superiority over all loot just cause your master.
Maybe nerfing loot even more than you already have got them to do would make many of you very happy but think of the people who aren't SW's and like to loot.
How is it fair to them if its nerfed even more where ALL space loot sux just so we can have monopolies over every type of component? Geez ppl. Share the wealth...
Well, to be fair, you can't loot adecent weapon orarmor or a house or anything that another crafting profession can sell that is worth anything... Well, not off ordinary enemies anyway. You can loot some exceptional weapons or weapons with great stats off of high end bosses. However, in space you canloot components that almost 100% of the time are better than anything a SW can make from any enemy.
I'm not necessarily complaining... but it isn't that way for any other crafting profession. Why just SW?
I know some of you might bring up Nightsister weapons or Geonsian weapons or Deathwatch weapons or Armor, and I'm fine with good stuff dropping from very difficult MOBS or high-end content, but off of everything in space? That doesn't seem right. (to me)
At the same time, most Shipwrights charge so much for their chassis that they don't have to worry about money from components.
/shrug. It's not horrible the way it is now and I still sell many components, but it just seems like every other aspect of the game's loot is designed around protecting the economy except for this loot.

With the sole exception of capacitors, about 5-10% of loot (and that's a high estimate) is equal to or better than crafted. I have tested this often: I'll go out and kill a chunk of baddies, filling my inv with just shy of 100 items. Then, when I get home, I pick out the ones that I or my other shipwright friend - neither of us are even master yet, mind you - could not make better than. On my best run I've picked up eight items (not including capacitors), and on the average run, two or three. This is in Kessel, against tier 5's, out of about 80 items per tripall told, and a sampling of about 10 trips. That's not that much uber-loot, really.
This isn't the ground game, and I think comparing it to the ground game for loot and everything else is a logical error. Sure, the space loot is decent, but any pilot who figures he can get by without a shipwright and only outfit himself with loot will be making a big mistake. In multiple threads, shipwrights are complaining about not having factories because they can't keep up with demand... removing/wrecking loot would only make that worse, as well as making the loot-hunt-game less fun for all pilots. I can't see how nerfing loot or making it totally overshadowed by crafted stuff would make anyone happy in the long run.
This is a point I didnt even think of, or at least I didn't tie together. It is amusing to think that "we can't sell anything beacuase loot is too powerful, but we can't keep our vendors stocked because we don't have factory support." Which is it folks. I think both at BS, but even assuming one is true, they certainly both can't be.
