Thread: Is it just me or is space mining broke?

You have ROTW, right?
And you're targetting and shooting at named asteroids (Iron Asteroid, Petrochemical Asteroid etc)?
Silly questions, but we need to know ![]()
yeah, tried different asteroids in different sectors. Nothing worked.
I read the Pilot and Shipwright forums every day, so I knew what to expect.
I did it the hard way: doing the mining quests that begin with Flash until I reached the dreaded Y8 bugged mission I won't even bother to take until they fix it.
Well, I noticed that some asteroids where not releasing chunks while others were. So I said myself, /examine it and fire at it until it's destroyed and a fresh one will appear. But after a few minutes of shooting (with a Mark I mining laser, mind you) the condition haven't lowered a single point.
I thought I was bugged but kept firing at the asteroid until suddenly it exploded. The /examine was not showing the updated condition, and this bug may be related to the UI update bug.
Anyway, since I only had a Mark I mining laser it took me way too much time so every time I found an asteroid that didn't break off I looked for another one. I could find at least one in each system that worked fine.
Last tip: be careful when mining asteroids in an asteroid field. You may thing you're shooting at one when you're shooting a regular asteroid that it's just in front of you very close to the one you should be shooting at.

I've tried two ships, several lasers (all which worked last time I mined). Nothing is doing any damage to asteroids (yes, I used /examine) so I can't do any mining.

I have had many friends over the last few days ask me about this. I'm wondering what symptoms you're experiencing. I am guessing you can't even split off large chunks from the asteroids. If this is the case, this is what you do.
Examine the asteroid and observe that it has a single stat called "Condition". When the condition of the asteroid falls below a certain level, it will no longer yield chunks. You have continue damaging the asteroid until its condition hits '0'. Once it hits '0', it will "blow up" and five seconds later it will respawn.
If you're still have a hard time doing damage, go to your local shipwright and buy a real mining laser. I made a whole bunch of Mark III Mining Lasers this last weekend because players were having a hard time with the garbage given to them during the mining quest.

sometimes the asteroids are empty blast it till it disaapears and a new fresh onewill respawn with plenty to mine
That's usually what I do, but the /examine's of the asteroid clearly showed that it's hp wasn't decreasing.
