Thread: Best mass experiment on a z95?

hey guys, having alternated between flying around in my z95 any my Ywing, I'm finding a tricked out z95 suits my play-style better - but, i'm limited by the amount of mass in there, compared with my Ywing, and wanted to know if it's possible to get a z95 that's more comporable - while I'm not in front of my machine now, i think my z95 has about 11k of available mass, and the y-wing has about 146k - a HUGE difference (basically, i've yet to overload my YWing, but have to mix n match the whole time on my z95)

so, what is the best mass that you guys have yet come up with, or what do you think from what you've seen, thata ball-park upper limit would be?

thanks

Yea around 13k, a little below there, is what I've been making.

Grendel just wait and get your X-wing, you'll like that a lot if you like the flight style of the Z-95 and get a ton more mass to play with.

hey, thanks a lot - looks like this is following the same path as weapons, armour, foods, etc - some of the higher craftable items will always be better than the lower-tier stuff - there may be a more specialised need for certain weapons (ie, striker's the only kinetic pistol, far as i know, but will never be close to sheer damage output as a FWG5) , but it kind of blows that even the best one you've created has roughly 10% of the mass of a medioche Ywing.

not saying they should be equal, oreven close, but as i progress it would be nice for me to actually have a reason to vary my ships, rathen than just choose between the fastest/most powerful/best, and the one that has a turret so i can take my pals along.

i guess i'd like my z95 to have a 30k mass limit instead, then i could get the few specialised, high-endcomponents i want on there and use it even when i'm further up the tree.

but thanks again for taking the time to answer

I consistently hit betwteen 12-13K. There are many reasons for the differentiation. First, during beta a lot of work was put into differentiating the ships. Second, the differentiation aligns well with Star Wars canon and EU. For example, the Z-95 is a older model of ship that was very limited in its capabities, but tended to be agile and fast (like a TIE fighter). However, a Y-wing is a big, bulky, old-style bomber that can carry a lot of equipment and ordance; in the X-Wing series of novels, you will find pilots refer to Y-wings as "pigs", because they're heavy, slow, not very agile, but can carry heavy loads. In my opinion, the devs did a fabulous job in differentiating the ships.

In addition, I believe that ships impose caps or modifiers of some sort on stats of components the ship has been equipped with. For example, a Decimator (a big, bulky ship) imposes caps on speed, yaw, pitch, and role.

hey, as always thanks for an excellent answer, Mister Santos - and from what others have told me, the X-Wing will fill all the needs i have from a fighter, but i've been doing a lot of support for guildies running their missions over the weekend and a z95 with a good engine, shields & powerfun ion-cannon has been making me a very effective "space mosquito" - would be nice to continue to have that as an option, even when i get access to better ships.

oh, ignore me, i'm still just bitter that my DL44 isn't a good enough pistol to justify me using it

understood and don't mistake this for a complaint, i like the way they've laid out the ship progression and am aware of the shortcomings of the z95 (have played all the flight games from X-wing and up and know them for the POS's they are), i'd just like to see items that are not invalidated byeverything that comes after - basically any ship above a z95 SHOULD be superior, but would like to have at least some room to play with it, and 13k leaves me nothing.

but hey, was just a hopeful question, not trying to argue the point with anyone, and i look forward to trying out x's, a's and b-wings.

thanks again.

Personally, I am dreading getting back into the cockpit of a Y-Wing from my Z-95. I understand the need to differentiate between the various vessels, but I would like to see some method to make the Z-95 last longer in my moving up the tiers. The Y-wing is a decent ship, it is just such a bear to pilot at times, with the extremely limited cockpit view and the slow response, even at the 75% (or so) throttle combat speed.

Maybe there could be some 'skill' related to the piloting profession that allows a the capablity of squeezing in slightly more mass into a ship, just due to knowledge in working with the starships for so long, or maybe the chassis could be 'sliced' by a smuggler to increase mass or hit points slightly, yes, even with the possibility of the starship being lost in the process.

A-Wing is a much better mosquito than an X. Or a Z for that matter.

Under Options in your MISC tab you can disable the cockpit overlay so you can have just your Targetting reticle and space. Yeah You have to get your Y wing down to about 25%-50% throttle to be able to follow a quick target.

The best I have been able to manage is 12.4k and that was with serious quality resources

I won't pilot any ship without the cockpit overlay, it's not for me. I enjoy seeing the cockpit, even when the cockpit obscures most everything from my view. It makes the game much more immersive. Immersion is important to me, since I play SWG to experience Star Wars in a massive continual environment interacting with, at least, hundreds of people.
