Thread: OMG...What was I thinking!!!!!!

Ok, here is the deal...I am a master freelance pilot on Flurry, and I loved it, but I have a terrible time finding a SW to RE my loot. Then along comes SOE with their "75000 credit" gift and I think to my self, "hmmmm...I should start a new character on a new server and do SW so I can RE my own loot. I can use the 75k for starter money and grind SW and pilot at the same time..."

WHAT WAS I THINKING!

I made it all the way to novice SW in one day, no big deal, then I saw the resource needs to grind up ONE box of SW and about crapped me pants! So I come to the forum and look up some stickies....5.1MILLION UNITS TO GRIND UP! Where the heck can I get that kind of resources????? The 75k ran out a long time ago, and I am saving all my loot for REing. I have all my lots as harvesters (personal because I can't afford much else) working on steel cuz you need a TON of it, but I am out of cash, tier 3 missions don't pay well (and I am stuck on one I can't pass without help), I have no ground skills except for artisan and SW, and I am SOOOOOO frustrated. In 4 days when the maintenence runs out on my harvesters I am SOL. So my question is this: I play at odd hours, and not on a regular schedule, I solo everything cuz I haven't found a guild I agree with so HOW THE HELL DO I GET THE RESOURCES TO GRIND THIS PROF? Any thoughts, ideas, or waypoints to 90%+ concentrations of CRAP resources (I don't need good stuff, I am not selling anything, just trying to grind through the prof) would be helpful.

/rant off

Thanks for being patient with me, been a long day and I needed to vent.

you could always offer to craft ships at no charge if people provide resources...

your best bet on this front is to get to 4 x x x FIRST, that way you can make a large range of high res req ships

Good luck, I do sympathise

Your problem is your trying to do it as a flat out grind (which is VERY tough unless you have a huge stockpile of either resources or credits). I started with about 600-700k resources (which basically cost me every credit I had). I would craft ships, and sell them cheap (if the resrouces cost me 2cpu, i would sell the ship at 2.5cpu). I was very careful to inform people that i was NOT a master shipwright, but the overall mass isn't that diffrent then one made by a master. Most of my customers were people that just wanted a cheap chasis to grind though one level then dispose of the ship.

I used all of the money I made to buy more resources (and buy harvesters/power). It took me about 3 weeks to master this way, and in the end, I had actually made about 500k during the entire process. You just have to be patient and willing to help/talk to people.

That cannot be stressed enough, know your craft, it will go a LONG way with your customers

One key is going to be harvesting the RIGHT resources. What do I mean by right? Well - all the SW resources stick around longer, so its MUCH more productive to wait until new SW steel shifts in, and mine the crap out of that for 3 weeks, than to play hide and seek with regular resources that shift around so much you only get 5 days on it.

this is why there are so few master SWs in the game.
I started WS the day it was availible and am currently only 4/3/3/3.... and broke

Ok, so here is another stupid question...what is a SW resource? How do you tell the difference?

I found some steel (54% max where I can mine) and it has been their for about a week and a half, so I guess this is a SW resource, but I don't know...

Maybe I should read (another) sticky thread eh?
I will check there.

The best thing to do is take some time off and let your resources grow. Start with one thing, I think I did steel first. No, it was siniclastic ore in the 90%s. I let them go for as long as I could and had like 400k eventually. To keep yoursef afloat, sell it in 2k chunks for 6k on the bazaar. Hit the 3 main planets and put 2 or 3 in each capital city bazaar - this should be more than enough to keep your harvs going. After the initial resource runs out, be careful to check if there is any new ones that you can do the same harvs with. I got lucky with Iron on the same vein area at a high %. After 4 or 5 days (maybe 7 or 8 on the new resources) start scouting for a new resource and a high % to move them to.

But to do it fast? Its gonna be difficult.

Start here and it should answer most of your questions.

The named resrouces are:

Fermionic Siliclastic Ore

Conductive Borcarbitic Copper

Crystallized Bicorbantium Steel

High Grade Polymetric

Gravitonic Fiberplast

Unstable Organometallic Reactive Gas

I THINK that's all of them, but this is from the top of my head, so I could be missing one or two.

I don't know the prices on your server but i find that you can make enough cash per mission on Yavin 4 station missions. Well at least the duty missions of hunt the pirates. i make about 80k in the mission rewards, ~30-40k in look credits, and about 50 loot items. that is how i am funding my SW grind. Gives me enought to buy heavy harvesters and maintance. However, you need a to at least a tier 3 pilot to do it.

I wish you best of luck, it is a profession you have to love to do or it is a total *itch to do. Hey, post your story in the pilot forum so they can get an idea of what SW go thru to supply them so they will stop gripping at us for everything being so expensive.

If you need a shipwright on Flurry then look me up -- Rayck Freesky. I'll happly RE most anything you've got ready and have a fair selection of add-in parts for those pesky 5 of 6 situations. My schedule has been a bit crazy as of late with school starting but can usually get a fairly quick turn around time for you.

i agree its not easy. i would even say almost impossible for you, at your current statis. U need some help.

i spent about 2 mil on medium and heavy harvestors and harvestor mait, over a period of one month, using mine and 3 more guildies lots.

also, even making weapons uses a lot of resourses!

I would advise u to find a nice guild willing to help you out.

Unles you are willing to do what it takes and over a period of a few months, grind, sell, and reinvest. Its a tough road.

GL in any case!!
