Thread: Responses to complaints about shipwrights
New complaints added as of 11/1/2004 at 3:15pm...
**Major Update** Complaints have been placed into categories for ease of reading. If you have any complaints that need to be addressed, please feel free to post them. If they suck,well...I'll let you know.
So far we've seen a lot of complaints regarding ships (and crafting in general... prices are too high, decay is insane, blah blah blah). I've always been quiet about these types of complaints since the boards is more of a haven for whiners and noobs than anything else, but I figured I'd throw out my responses for fun...
Money - The Root of All Evil

Response:
Anyone who says that gets the bird from me. The simplest response: because I can, so shut yer hole. The complicated response: So what if someone is undercutting you? If life in a free market sucks that bad move to Cuba and say hi to Castro for me. Competition is a fact of life, and if someone is selling the same product as you for cheaper than you better be prepared to respond. I used to sell a droid for 10k in one city and sell that same exact model for 30k in another. Were their people selling at a price lower than me? Sure. Did I lose sales? Of course. But I kept my vendor stocked and customers kept coming back (plus I'm generally a nice guy). It's all about what the market can handle and what people are willing to pay. If you get driven out of business by some n00b selling 1/10th of your volume, you just suck at business and should go take a flying leap from the top of the Theed Waterfall.
"How come this person charges X cpu for a chassis while someone else charges Y cpu? I'm not paying that much! You guys are just trying to keep your prices inflated!!
Response:
Damn right! Architects got killed in the beginning because prices kept getting lower and lower until they were maybe making 4cpu for items (if they were lucky). When the only stat you have to go on is the amount of resources in a product, and the resources don't matter in the final construction you're somewhat hosed. Personally (not being an architect but having worked with many) I thought they should've all banded together and never let the prices drop below 10cpu. That would've allowed them to keep making money. As far as shipwrights go... they're gonna be making a lot of money right now, so just stop complaining already. If anyone whines about shipwrights being rich it'll be the weaponsmiths who go from making 8 million/day to 6 million/day. If only they were as successful at finding a woman as running a fake business in a virtual world maybe they wouldn't be online so much.
Other Varied Whining - Because Sometimes You Just Need Something Else to Complain About
Complaint:
"With all the shipwrights grinding the price of steel has gone through the roof!"
Another one of these "waaah" kind of complaints. If (insert resource here) is expensive go mine your own! SOE gave you 10 lots for a reason. Stop hording all your meatlump loot drops in your 5 completely useless houses and run a harvester or two. Any crafter worth his salt will run harvesters to pick up needed materials and then supplement the hard to find stuff from a vendor.
Because we're cool and you're not. Actually, this all depends on how you look at it since a person pre-ordering a Star Wars related software program is not normally considered "cool" by normal society.

Complaint:
"Ship prices are going to get so high!" or "Why are shipwrights charging so much??"
Response:
This has always been my response to this complaint... don't shop at that merchant! If the prices are too high, go somewhere else. People complain about prices, but then they go and spend 5 million for a friggin' rug. Geez. Why are they charging so much? Because they can, so deal. If you have a problem with it, become a shipwright, have a friend become a shipwright, or just quit. Personally the latter would probably make everyone happier if you're complaining like this.
Just to add to your above point;
I am selling all blueprints at 5 cpu used to craft them. I sell Mark 1 items at 5K and will sell Mark 2 items for more (but not too much).
Ifthiose priceshigh then oh well, but with almost everything handcrafted I feel my prices are reasonable and should compensate me for my costs and time.
The customer should shop around and find the best deal, the "overchargers" will drop their prices when they see stock sitting and not selling.
C'mon... where are the flamers? Complaints are all over the boards but nothing here. I guess that just proves that their points are completely invalid.

That's what happens after over a year of being frustrated with the whiners. It's bound to come out at some point.
