Thread: ARC 170 Art (Rage of Wookiee new ship)
I too hope it doesn't blow away the "modern" ships, such as the X-wing, but rather is a nice supplemental option that perhaps fills some of the gaps between the other fighter's roles.
On the old/obsolete issue... Older craft often remain in service, even in the real world, for a variety of reasons. Take the U2 spyplanes for example. They're still flying. Why? Because they're cheap to operate. The SR-71 Blackbird was far more advanced, but was retired due to a $90k/hour operating cost.
Dispite being around 20 years older, and built during the first war the Republic knew in generations.

So, am I to understand that this ship is a new ship being introduced in Episode III? I don't understand why they are introducing these ships into SWG. I would think that most of these ships would be obsolete by the timeframe in which we are playing. For example, the Jedi Starfighter--what Jedi?
Well, at any rate, thanks for taking the time to find this artwork. It is a cool looking ship.

because theyre obsolete doesnt mean they dont exist.
the millenium falcon would have been obsolete if not heavily modified. technically according to canon the headhunters are obsolete but they're playable ships.
or look in real life. how many people do you see that are still driving their 20+ year old cars?
I think an even better example is the F-15. It is 30 years old, yet they just keep upgrading it with newer navigational systems, weapons, engines, and radar equipment. It is still an incredible fighter jet and one of the most versatile of all fighters. Also, the B2 is nearing 20 years of age already, but I don't think that aircraft will be retiring any time soon.
I think this is a bad looking ship. I hope it performs well, but I'd prefer it be a mid-level fighter. The Y-wing is just awful, and it would be nice to have a supplemental craft with less mass.

Obsolete? Not likely, they're only about 20 years old by this time frame, hardly outdated I would think.

But for PVE, yeah, good call. Though I must admit to being pretty excited to see this thing in action. May 5 should hurry up and get here already.
