Thread: Confused about /con as a scout
I'm confused about how /con and, as a result, xp gain works for scouts. I've got Exploration II, Trapping III, Hunting I, and Survival II in my Scout tree. I've also got Advanced Carbine and Intermediate Ranged Support in the Marksman tree.
After going from Intermediate to Advanced Carbine, some of the creatures I was fighting went from white to blue (e.g. chubas) and some didn't (nightspiders and ikopi.) My xp gain for Scout skills like harvesting and trapping went down for those same creatures. The /con color for critters was not affected by my increase in Trapping skill even though that has had a much greater effect on my overall combat effectiveness when compared to getting Advanced Carbine.
So what I gathered from that observation is that /con is based solely on the weapon you carry and your proficiency with that weapon. Furthermore, xp gained from other skills is also based on your /con to the creature relative to the weapon you're holding. Is this right?
If so, then it would seem that advancing your weapon skill actually hurts xp gain in your auxilliary skills. This is counterintuitive, IMO. You'd think that increasing your weapon skill would allow you to fight bigger game, which would in turn increase your xp gain in auxilliary skills. Can someone enlighten me?
Not that I fully understand it, but here is my understanding. You are half right.
The /con of creatures and NPC's is based on your weapons skills. The better you are at them, the lower the same animals /con to you. For those creatures you may get some less exp, but at the same time, what was yellow, is now white and you have a chance of fighting it. And that creature will give you more exp then the previous white's you were fighting.
So, it seems like you are being cheeted because the same ones give less exp. But the system is designed to not give same exp when you are more powerful then the creature, and to give you more exp if it is more powerful then you. Thus making it a challenge.

Maybe the system works better when you get higher in skill level. Right now, it's much easier to kill the blues that used to be white, but the whites that were white before are just as hard to kill, but give a bit less xp. I'm lucky to kill the things that /con yellow to me. Maybe things will become clearer when I get to the next level of Carbine.
