Thread: What skill aids making traps?

Does anyone know if Artisan Assembly helps in making traps, or is it the trapping skill? I have Eng IV at the moment so my Artisan Assembly is +60, but I am quickly running out of skill points and wanted to know if unlearned engineering was going to hurt my ability to make traps.

i picked up artisan the other day because i thought it would help me in making traps and camps.

it didnt as far as i could tell. i have engineering II, and i still get failures once in awhile. its all a roll of the dice, so i can see how i can get a failure, then make the same thing, with the same materials right after, and get a great success. i dont think that the artisan modifiers apply to making non-artisan stuff.

but i could be wong.

I am hoping that is the case, this way I can just ditch artisan all together and use those points for other thing. I would probably keep novice artisan just so I can sample for things needed in making traps, like metal and polymers.

thats why im keeping it. because i like to survey for my own stuff. what happens if you're nowhere near a city and need some metal? your stuck.

Couldn't agree more. I have scout/marksman/artisan. I too am keeping the artisan so I can survey as well.

Are there any other confirmations as to the effectiveness of having a high Artisan Assembly and making traps? So far, it sounds as if its not needed for traps.

One thing you can do as an Artisan is to Experiment on your Traps. You have to be in a city to do this as you need to be near one of the crafting terminals and you'll need a specialized crafting tool instead of your generic one. When you use this combination you get an additional step in thecrafting process where you have the option of Experiment. If you're successful you might get a set of traps of higher quality or that yield a greater number in the batch.

It's not too big a difference in terms of the traps effectiveness though and, unless you want to make a backpack full of the things you're probably just better off making them in the field.
