Thread: Exploration as a seperate Scout XP pool?
Would it be feasible to make the Exploration line in the Scouting/Ranger professions into a separate XP pool? It makes sense that you should gain some experience for your efforts in terrain exploration. You’re a scout. Harvesting creatures shouldn’t have anything to do with the exploration aspect of scouting.
If this is possible, it seems to me that it would solve some problems with people exploiting /maskscent for scout experience. This way people could still get XP up in the exploration line and maybe even fairly quickly to use /maskscent, but they’d still have to advance at a normal rate to get to the professions that branch from Scout.
Actually a good idea.. Make the exploration tree a scout xp, and the creature knowledge tree a separate "Creature knowledge xp" you get by looting. Would solve the "problem" with people rushing through scout xp towards eg. creature handler.
Only problem i can see with this would be how Sony could "convert" whatever you have gotten on harvesting to the new xp tho.. might pose a tad of a problem, but would certainly solve the problem imo.
i had thought about this from day 1.
you SHOULD get xp for each planet you visit. you SHOULD get xp for each town you visit. and you SHOULD get xp for the amount of space on each planet you cover.
i think it would also be cool if you got xp for discovering things. all those little buildings out in the middle of nowhere, or NPC's that are roaming the wilds. imo this is how scouts SHOULD be getting xp. or at least some xp from it.
we should also be getting xp for foraging. THAT is the kinds of things a scout does. maybe they could even put in something that if you find one of these hidden places, and send the waypoint to another player, you can get xp. isnt that scouting after all?
harvesting bones and hides from creatures has nothing to do with scouting.
I wholeheartedly agree with the foraging XP - artisans get XP for sampling successfully, why don't Scouts get XP for foraging?
As for Exploration, I definitely think that you should get XP for visiting different cities, but not by shuttlecraft. I walked from Tyrena to Kor Vellis the other night (and back again), and it was a whole lot of fun (not to mention the Steel deposits I found, which I sucked for quite a few credits when I got back to Tyrena!). That's the epitome of being a scout - exploring, wandering, and finding things.

that right there is the whole reason i picked this profession.
same here !
now I am stuck with, shoot it, skin it, throw it on the pile.
While I would like the idea of getting xp for actually exploring since is why I am a scout too the current method of gaining xp does not resign us to just shooting and skinning.
I explore and as I do I engage various things on the way.
This way I earn some scouting xp while exploring the planet and setting waypoints to mail my friends.
Then when I am back in town I sell all the extra materials I have gathered.
Works well for me and my play style. may not work for many though as I do not care about the xp I am doing because I enjoy it though. I can see this not being a good thing especially for those who want to optomise xp gain.
im not looking for XP gain. although of course i want to make it to the top!
im more interested in seeing where i can fit myself into the galaxy. with so many scouts out there, and so many people that power leveled, i needed to find something else to do with my profession. so i came up with a few ideas and will try them out.
ill let you know after i find my niche. wish me luck.
