Thread: How's the effectiveness of Maskscent

No so great. I am not quite a master scout and higher level mobs see though it as soon as I activate it. There is a 60 second delay between detection and reactivation, plus they are changing it so a creature that detects you has a larger chance of attacking you.

The 60 second rule was implemented to prevent players from exploiting maskscent for big xp. You have a chance of getting xp when you come withing 64 m of a creature. Players were finding a large group of small creatures and moving from 63m to 65m and back again. I heard that you could get something like 15000 xp/hour doing that.

Recently, I was thinking of trying to use mask scent proactively instead of defensively -- using it after a creature has aggroed on me to get it off my scent. I have no idea if that will work.

It would be nice if the 60 second rule could be reworked. I would like the game toattach a marker to the character so that he has to get some distance from the detecting creature before he can maskscent again. This would only be in memory and not stored on the database. It would also only require one piece of information -- only one creature can break your camoflague at a time. The distance could be based on the distance that the creature was when it detected you (like some multiplier of the distance). That would allow you to get out of dangerous situations quickly, and would require a lot of running around for players trying to exploit XP.

Lee,

It's mixed right now, but the Devs have made some changes for the next update, and I'm interested in seeing if this resolves our complaints about the timer. I would say go ahead and start getting the Explore XP so if the changes are good, you're already there. But don't bank on it saving your tail out there.

I am planningon becoming a resource mining expert who go over planets to mine to most rare and demanding resource. Can any experienced scout or ranger give me someideas on how effective the maskscent skill is ? I thinkit is critical to me when I have to run throughcrowds of red mob to the middle of Lokjust to find aspot to plant my extractors. If it is impossible for a scout, will ranger level maskscent helps on this ? Any suggestion are welcome. Thanks!

As a Bothan with Wayfaring III (as good as a non-Bothan with WF IV) /masksecnt allows me to roam around the starter planets without always taking a detour around red-blips. If the blip would kill me out right, then I would still give them some room. But otherwise, I can usualy run close thoughand not worry about picking up agro while running to my harvestors.

I have not tried any of the "remote" planets in a long time. But I do recall /maskscent being fairly reliable on Lok when I was just a Master Scout. I wouldnot run though camps but I would not have stop ever time a something new showed up on myradar. Just make sure I gave them decent room.

It seems to work pretty decent for me. I have Explore IV current and it saves me alot of aggro from medium con aggro mobs. I think the camoflauge skill has alot to do with its effectiveness. If you want to maximize this ability your going to need to do Master Scout and one skill tree in Ranger.
