Thread: Why use Adhesive Mesh??
Ok, i'm not master scout yet, but i got trap 4, and i got the third box in the marksmen tree for carbine.
I can easily solo reds, specially big animals like rogue banthas, or the big turtles on Rori.
My battle is:
Phen Dart (PD), Leg Shot 2 (LG2), LG2, LG2, LG2, PD, LG2, LG2, LG2, LG2, PD, .... etc.
I get great battle exp, good traps (since i throw many PD), and quickly med my action pool in camps, and get wooly hides...
Question is: Phen darts works wonder for me, creatures are almost rooted for 4 shots. Why should i use the Adhesive mesh, costing more to craft, only stacks in 2, and produce a similar but shorter effect???
Venar.
Yeah I agree Phen darts work just as well, if not better, then adhesive mesh. The real problem is phen darts are supposed to just snare the mob, but I guess SWG's idea of snaring is to make them go so slow you can hardly see them move. I mean they move a LITTLE with a phen dart on em, but its pretty much just a root. I use the same strat you mentioned above except I use my carbines action shot and root the mob with it, and that bleeds their action away while I leg shot them. Much faster and easier and I can solo pretty much any melee mob I run into. I think phen darts need to be changed to reduce speed by about 60% for around 30 seconds, and adhesive mesh should keep rooting but last closer to 30 seconds as well, that would make them much more distinct and useful.
Well a lot of it depends on the mob in question. Banthas are slow to begin with and can be killed without traps even if you don't mind running around a little. Other mobs though will be much faster and as such the darts don't help as much. I know Peeko Peeko's for instance tend to still move fairly well with the phen dart effect on them, and when the dart wears off, they can keep up with burst run (or at least they did to me
).
So in some situations the mesh will be better, but if you are fighting a slow creature, you might as well stick with the dart for the reasons you mentioned.
I agree... adhesive mesh is too expensive to really be used often. I'd rather have 5 phen. darts instead of just 2 Adh. Meshes.
The only time I do use Adhesive mesh is when hunting large hard hitting critters, and a group member is getting pounded on... Mesh the beastie first, and then re-phen dart. this is to hold the mob in place to make sure your friend gets away..... With a dart the mob might get a few more hits in...

I believe the value comes for us unarmed/scout combos as the Adhesive Mesh has a melee vulnerability affect as well. For a ranged weapon, snared...rooted, generally they seem to have the same function of sitting them still so you can wail on 'em.

Maybe this was why I achieved trapping four long before I maxed any of the other skill boxes. Resources, except for the polymer and metal components for traps are easy for us to come by. I found some metal and polymer thru a friend...got large stacks of them.
I was using upto6 or 7traps on every creature in a large battle. For the little fights, no big deal...didn't even trap them. But when grouping, and taking on grizzled dewbacks, those traps can really help...
Each different trap has a different effect (although some are just better versions of the original two)
Each trap that hits gives you more trapping exp. Once or twice, i've gone thru the entire run of traps, and started over as I saw traps wear off. Imagine...268 exp for a trap hitting, multiplied by 10? Take those big mobs and milk them for all its worth.
Another technique that works well for trapping exp is to find a tough melee mob, such as a bantha. Hit them with a dart, then warning shot. they run away, hit them with leg shot. they come back...warning shot and leg shot. over and over. as you see your trap wear off, hit em again. Even cupas can be used like this for lots of exp.
