I'm posting this in the scout forums because this is how I found it. Ok it's been assumed that you get combat xp at 1/10 the weapon xp. For instance if you kill something and it gives you 200 weapon xp it'll give you 20 combat xp.

Using traps debunks that theory. I don't know if this has been posted or not but when I used an adhesive mesh against a bagaseret last night I would get 230 weapon xp and 50 combat xp.

You will see this with traps that do some type of damage. Since you did not do that damage with your weapon, you did not get weapon XP. However the creature is still worth that "hidden" weapon XP. So your combat XP is based on the total damage you did, though not all of it was done with your weapon.

The combat XP is fixed by the mob. You kill it and you get that much combat XP. The weapon XP, however, is based on how much damage you did to the mob in the killing. When you use a trap, it does damage (for example, if you toss a bone spur and a noise maker, you've devestated their mind pool without HITTING them) without giving you weapon XP. So, if you only use weapons (rifle and axe for example) to kill the mob, the total XP split between whatever weapons you use will be 10x the amount of combat experience. However, when you use a trap you are trading trapping experience for weapon experience.
