Thread: Mask Scent ability is now worse than before because it's now a liability, not safer

The changes implemented throw in a chance that creatures will attack you if your mask scent check fails. This made the feature worse.


If mask scent breaks there should be no more of a risk of you getting attacked than if you didn't use mask scent.


This makes mask scent a liability. You can usually get within 30 - 40 meters of many red dots without getting attacked. But if your mask scent breaks they're going to attack you anyway?


I had this happen last night. I was usingmask scent and 35 meters from some baz nitches when the 'a creature has detected you' message came up, and I had three baz's on me.


If I hadn't used mask scent they would have left me alone.


When you're dealing with red cons there is no such thing as higher protection at higher risk. If I can trust my own manuevering but can't trust my mask scent then there's no reason to use mask scent. It puts you and your group at more risk, not at more safety, because you have NO control over when a whole mob will attack you.


If mask scent breaks and you're within attack range of a mob, fine, I accept that. But if the mob wouldn't have attacked you if you weren't using mask scent, this is illogical and makes the mask scent feature useless because it's something you can't trust.

Also even MORE of a liability because if you use it around yellows, and they detect, you may get aggrod by them as well.

I was slain by a seething bol crusher on dantooine the other evening because he detected me through maskscent.

I am SICK of them "Fixing" things, almost evertime they make it worse then the time before, By end of September the game should be unplayable.

I recognize your frustration - I'm frustrated too.


Not everyone is having the same experience with maskscent - like I've said in other places, it's working too well for me.


And the people on Test Center are just regular players like us - they're not test employees. But apparently the Devs are having issues listening to them as well...Holocron admitted as much a few days ago.


I can only hope that this gets better.

I've had to give up using mask scent as I no longer get XP so the chance of being attacked for it failing (about 5% it seemed) wasn't worth it. If it went back to giving xp on anything that might break it I don't mind being attacked if it breaks. That is, if a yellow can break it and attack me, I better get XP if it doesn't break.
