Thread: explore missions explained
Too many people don't seem to understand explorer missions... I have completed several of these and they are actually a great mission type of scouts. Here are the details to make it simple for you.
- most important point. there are NO waypoints. Even that 0,0 white waypoint you get means nothing. ignore any references to waypoints or "unknown planet". These are "explorer" missions. You are supposed to explore the worlds to find the creature that you are trying to kill.
- it doesn't matter where you kill the creatures. If you get an explore mission for spiked krevols then you can run all over the planet (Naboo in this case) and kill spiked krevols wherever you find them. Next to a lair is the best place but you will find that you will need to do this 3 or 4 times in order to kill enough creatures. (30-45)
- adults and babies count towards the required kill number.
- there does not seem to be a time limit.
Here is the best part. If you can, take a destroy mission and then find an explore mission for the same type of creature. That way you will get a waypoint for the destroy mission and you can use that to find the creatures you are looking for. In some cases it may be hard to find a destroy mission for some of the higher level explore missions. You may also need to do a few destroy missions of the same creature type in order to kill the required number of creatures for your explore mission, but that's ok because you are making $$ on the destroy mission while working to the usually much larger payoff of the explore mission.
Also, as a scout you can collect hides/bones off all the 45 creatures in your explore mission and then turn around and sell those on the bazaar for another source of income.
AFAIK, if you group up in an explore mission the kill totals of the group count towards the final total. But I have not comfirmed this. Can anyone else?
Happy hunting!!
I tried the same thing with explore missions, doing 1 kill task and an explore mission of the same type. Seems to be faster money (in my case anyway) just to do straight destroy missions though. I did have the idea that if 4 or 5 people get together, and 4 of the 5 take destroy missions, and the 5th takes explore missions, the 5th could complete 1 mission a trip i figure, and 6-7k (thats what im shown anyway, price wise on explore missions) is alot better than two destroy missions. Never tried it though, could make them alot more useful. Im not really sure how profitable they are solo, could fit alot of destroy missions in 45 kills.
Busey,
We've been doing what you describe and what we've found is that the person holding the explore mission must do some damage to the creature in order for it to count.
Doing the math, you generally get more money per kill for Hunting (not exploring) missions. Of course this is reduced by the fact that you have to bleed the lairs more, and the fact that you have to keep running back to town to get regular destroy missions. I haven't checked any of this out over different cities (as some cities on different planets paid more pre-patch.)
7000 creds / 45 kills= ~155 creds per kill
700 creds /4-5 kills (what i figured to be the average creatures spawn) = 140-175 (more likely to be low end since I usually see about 5 spawns per lair.)
Now, this assumes that I would take the highest paying hunting missions I can find, and the highest paying destroy missions I can find, which in the city I was in at the time, those were the highest I could get paid.
too much running back and forth to get missions..
As a ranger, I like to stay out of town as much as possible.
Has anyone else noticed this:
I'm on Corellia. When I take these hunting missions, I scroll through a bunch of options to find one I like. Good? Great. The problem I have is the bizarre price/danger discrepancies. Example: Sometimes I'll find 7k missions to kill vynoks, diseased vrelts or scavenger rats (easy, for those of you not from Corellia) and sometimes I'll find 1k missions for slice hounds or dire cats (ridiculously difficult).
So I'm expecting they'll notice this soon enough and eventually these missions will either payour much less, or you'll have to do a hell of a lot more work to make the 7k.
- If you take two explore missions for the same type of creature, they are sequential not concurrant. You are probably better off taking different creature types.
- If you know the area, pick creatures that tend to spawn frequently. I could finish a 45 vrelt before a 15 rogue bageraset.
- Pay attention to whether the mission is for 15, 30 or 45 kills depending upon how long you want to stay in the field. If you get tired of the higher kill missions, you wasted your time if you delete it, yet it is taking up one of your two slots.
