you can use more than one type of trap on a mob at the same time. Some traps will also stack with each other. I will often dumpa couplestacks of wire mesh traps on a mob before finishing it off.

Though sometimes I get a message saying that the trap hit but the creature is in a rage or something like that

Vol,
It depends on what kind of effect the trap has - if you are throwing one of the traps that's stuns the creature and he's already stunned, you won't stun him more. But you can throw as many traps at a creature as you want, wait for the effects to wear off and then throw them again, and you'll get the XP.
I've gotten almost 10000 trapping XP off of one Fambaa on Naboo using that method. I went through 8 traps three full times, and at 400 XP per trap, you can get a big old buttload of XP very fast.

The traps that have an effect like stun or blind can only be used after the previous effect has worn off, also remember if one of your shots say like leg shot 2 stuns your opponent your noise maker trap will not work. But if you use the glow juice traps you can throw to your little hearts content and you will get xp for them. But personaly I find this a large waste of materials that I could give to friends who make couches and cloths.

Spam the traps left and right, hope for the best, run like hell, shoot shoot shoot, and don't worry about anything.
