I spend 2k on a scout pistol (or gun), I'm not sure which one it is.
When I equiped it I got a message saying that I was not trained to use it. I'm only a novice scout.

Does anyone know what level I need to attain before I can use it effectively.
There should be something that tells you whether you can use a weapon effectively or not.

Specifically Scout 2. I hope that you didn't pay too much for it. Some of our less scrupleous brethren try dto take advantage of NB's

I paid 2k for it I'm not really sure if that was too much or not, it seemed to be the going
rate.

There is - you need to have a certification for the pistol type. You get these certifications by advancing through the Pistol skill tree in the Marksman profession.

Scout is for experts and above, I believe. The name has nothing to do with the Scouting ability itself.

You will need to pick up the Marksman profession and get pistol XP before you can use a Scout pistol

Perhaps this would make a good broad (not just scout-related) suggestion for our correspondent? Some sort of visual indication of whether or not items are valid under our current conditions. Armor, clothes, weapons, etc. could have a green background when usable, red when not.

I paid 12k for my scout pistol.

It is a sweet pistol though. 75-113 damage and 2.0 second refire. Un-sliced still. I am going to get it sliced soon.
