Thread: what planet is best for scouting
As far as I know, you have to go 1km from a city to set up camp on any planet. Unfortunately, the only way to get Survival xp is to go set up a camp and sit there for hours on end. I recommend getting a good book or a GBA.
Another way to make camping more fun is to try to camp in an area that is frequented by other PCs. Set up a macro to announce that your camp is open to anyone. When people come by, tell jokes, dance, heal, or point out good critter spawns.
Scouting is a lonely life...
Yeah, it's real funny that I can see that people are building houses within the same radius that I would like to build. They can put up an entire building, yet I can't hammer a few tent stakes into the ground and build a fire? Can anyone tell me if that sounds a bit wrong? I mean this sounds like something you'd hear about on sesame street when Maria is explainingfairness and equal treatment to Big Bird.
"Big bird! You can't sell crack to Oscar and then refuse to sell it to Telly, that's not fair!"
They can build there because it's reasonable to set up a shop or house either in the wilderness or the city. however, camping gives you "wilderness survival" xp, so it wouldn't make much sense to me if you got such xp for setting up a pup tent in someone's back yard.
I've been scouting on Talus. Pretty good deal. Lots of Grassland with lots of game so the hunting is great. With only 2 cities things aren't too crowded once you get a couple of Klicks out of the city. Of course getting a couple of Klicks can be kind of interesting.
I understand about sitting in camp twiddling your fingers. Thats one of the reason's I got novice artisan. When I realized that if I strayed more them about 30 m from the camp it was automatically abandoned. I went out and got my novice training as an artisan. Now I go out 2 - 3 Klicks from town. Hunt and trap all morning. Survey until I find a good site. Set up and either sample of fabricate all night long. Start the process over again. Works out pretty good. I usually go out for about 5 game days at a time and rack up about 4000 xp per trip. I've got survival 2 with about 8,000 points to get three. Another 2 trips ought to do it.
The only problem is what do I do with all the stuff I've fabricated. I've got stuff coming out the ears. I've guilt just about everything the crafting tool can build. The bazzar won't take any more stuff. My safety deposit box is filling up and the junk vendor runs when he sees me coming!
I think they should re-think the camping concept. Funny enough, I don't have a problem with the no-build idea. I hate the idea of being tied to the camp. We should be able to set up camp and as long as we say within say 500m it shouldn't be abandoned. We would then be free to range and hunt and fish and prospect just like they did in times of old (you know that Mythical scout Bantha Bill Cody I think his name was).
As for the survival XP, I guess Im one of the few who dont see it as a problem. The games been out a month but people are mad they can't make Master as quick as they'd like. The camps are for healing after you've been hunting, hunt with a group and more people heal and you get more XP, grab entertainer and heal mind dmg/wounds for the others in your camp and get more XP. Survival XP becomes a grind when you make it one. I just can't figure out what the rush is, with hunting/healing with a friend I didn't have alot of trouble making Survival IV and almost have enough for Frontiering I already. Just take your time, the game isn't going anywhere.
Yea I ran into that problem on Corellia to. I stopped hunting there as much, went back to Naboo and Rori.
I hated going half accroos the map to set up a camp on Corellia (I THINK IT IS BUGGED, Planet that is)
My biggest problem getting Survival XP has been grouping. Whenever I group every knucklehead in the group is an amateur scout and wants to set up camp. There's no respect for professional scouts.
I ended up going camping/surveying on my own. Hopefully it will help group situations a little bit now that I have more than just the basic camp. I like the idea of setting up camp and yelling for advertisement. I'll have to try that.
