Ive been trying to exp trapping off some really slow red con mobs, but the traps never land, is that becuase these are too high for me or what?

It's probably more a factor of which traps you are using on the creatures, and how close you are getting. The lowest level traps aren't going to affect a powerful mob. Ramp up slowly - grab a gnort mission or two and nail the hell out of them for a while. Then go to spiders. And so on. Soon you'll be getting the 400 XP per trapfrom the Fambaas.
