Thread: Do Traps Really work?
I am a Master Scout/Pistoleer, toying with the idea of Creature Handler. Once I hit Trapping IV, I pretty much quit using traps. Even the Adhesive trap didn't seem to do much. Sure they were rooted, but they almost immediately broke the root and chased after me.
The other day, some friends of mine and I were taking down Mountain Worrts and I was tossing traps at it for fun. I would hit it with the one that lowers Ranged and Melee resistance (I forget the name). It really didn't seem to make a lick of difference. We still hit it for the exact same damage as before. I tried rooting it with the adhesive trap but it only lasted a second.
The only usefull thing I've found so far for the adhesive trap is that it helps toggle a creature's aggro target. Since the AI for aggro seems to depend pretty much on who is the closest target, I use the adhesive trap to root it temporarily, giving the meleers a chance to back off and switch aggro targets. The mind damage traps don't do near enough damage to be worth the timer delay. Blindness doesn't seem to make the creature hit any less.
I hope I'm just missing something obvious. If someone would like to explain the system to me in more detail, I'd sure be happy to learn. After all, the idea of traps seems very cool to me. I just don't want to clutter my backpack with useless traps. Thanks.
Actually I have been wondering the same thing. And I, like you, pretty much stopped using traps when I hit Trapping 4 as well. I used adhesive Mesh for the first time last night on Endoron a Jax(like they dont move slow enough as it is) and it was only rooted for maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Not worth it in my opinion given the amount of materail required tomake them.

After hitting Trapping IV, I stopped using traps too.
My problem with traps is that I used a rifle alot, so I had to get into the 40ish meter range to throw a trap...this closer range coupled with my very slow rifle only allowed me to get a one or two shots off before they were on me.
On the upside, the trap I enjoyed most, even at LVL IV was the bone spur...it lowered the mind ham down enough for me to take targets out in one shot with the rifle.
Well, here's one person's experience.
I use them quite often to kite red mobs... but maybe not quite as red as you're trying them on
. I use P Dart and Adhesive Mesh traps quite alot and find that they give me 2-4 rifle shots which is usually more than enough. I do this with challenge level 14-18 (use your /examine)mobs generally. I think they would be required on fast 14-18's but you could probably get by easy enough without them if the mob is slow already. I don't really use the other traps.
I think we're discovering that Phecnacine works more reliably than the adhesive mesh. Phecnacine slows them to a crawl for about 10 seconds, which translates into so many shots based on your weapon of choice. The Adhesive Mesh doesn't seem to be working correctly, and I suppose we may want to /bug it just in case something is actually wrong with them.
I'm not so sure about that. I have excellent results with adhesive mesh. In fact, I think it's quite amazing how well the mesh works for me. I'll usually ms 2 & 1 and then hs until they bolt for me and pop an mesh. My adhesive mesh is usually around 20% quality, so not sure how that affects the to hit.
