If you want to save yourself 63 points and a lot of grief...

Spend your points elsewhere and don't even dream of becoming a Ranger...

Master Scout is all you need...

Rangers are the most ill-conceived class you could imagine. They only difference is, their camps look cooler.. they can crawl faster and they get the /rescue skill which should actually be renamed /sacrifice.

So I'm just trying to save you some headache...

Move along...

Go spend your points in something useful like Pistoleer.

All classes are being worked on. I have faith that the ranger class will be fixed. If you still dont like it after the fix, you always have the option to unlearn the class. Because ranger exp isn't shared with other professions, you really have nothing to lose but time.

I have to rebut this.

Ranger is not useless. It may be currently un-impressive, but it is not useless like some of the other Elite classes. Personaly, I am enjoying climbing the Ranger Skills.

Currently there are two nice things about Ranger for me. /maskscent is effective enough that I can travel solo in areas that I could not fight. Not risk-free, but with much less risk of attack.

The Camps are cool. When you get them

All the up coming Scout Fixes well have even greater impact on Rangers.

That said. Rangers are still just "better scouts" and don't have any gimicks. If you are looking at becoming a Ranger down the road, I would suggest getting Novice and working on your Survival XP. With decent combat skills, you can run up the Trapping XP and Scouting XP in a few days. Survival takes a few weeks. (unless you do some type of "grinding")

Yeah, I've read enough to put me off on the idea. And for those who say don't worry, it'll be fixed -- well, I'll consider it when they fix it. Not before.

I'd originally planned to go Ranger, but there really isn't anything great going for it.

That being said, I tend to get a ton of scout xp, just doing what I do in game (it still baffles me why some folks think that scout xp is *hard*). So at this point, I'm advancing ranger skills as they come available, and enjoying the minor boosts they give to the existing scout line. The worst I'm out, is a few thousand credits for training (gets harder finding folks to actually train skills the higher up you go). But in the grand scheme of thing, it's no biggie.

The worst that will happen, is they will do nothing to Rangers. When I get higher in some of the other lines I'm pursuing, I can just unlearn it and do things that interest me more. In the interim, I'll have got the benefit (dubious as it may be) of the Ranger line while I'm learning other things, and I'm only burning xp (and a few credits)that isn't doing me good anywhere else.

All,

First, being a Ranger myself, I find that the skills that I have as a Scout are only enhanced by being a Ranger. The primary example of this is the fact that I rarely get killed out in the field, especially if I'm leading a group, whereas my friends are constantly getting their tails handed to them out in the field. This is due to the skills that we as Rangers are given, not merely to my game play style.

I run faster than anyone else. I can run away faster than anyone else. I can get within 20 yards of a red and have a good chance of not getting attacked. My camps are great, and they always get comments. And I can make a stack of 200-300 hides off a good sized Gnort lair, whereas I was only getting 60 when I started.

Second, this isn't the Ranger board, so warning us off here may not be that effective.

Delta... the problem is that the Ranger boards are useless IMHO.... the ONLY skill that is not a root Scout skill is /Rescue... everything else that Rangers complain about is really a Scout issue...

They gimped Rangers something fierce when they took away /conceal and the proposed nerf (not improvement) to /maskscent is going to make that skill even more useless to a Ranger...

So I see no reason to post a warning on the Ranger board because no matter how much we rant and rave, our weekly Correspondent submission is nearly always going to be a reiteration of the issues that Scouts are working on... its redundant and lackluster.

If you read both boards you'll see that both classes Scouts and Rangers are calling for a clearer distinction between the two... (Scouts complain that Rangers do everything they do and vice versa)

I had some ideas for improving Rangers/Scouts. Check them out here http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=scout&message.id=4766

Maybe they could get some love from the Ranger Coorespondant *shrugs*

Silver,

That's right. I should have been more clear. I can move pretty quick on the ground, which is fun. It also is helpful in seeing up skirts in the cantina.

Pfft, what skirts? Whenever I visit a cantina they're all in their underwear.

Have you ever noticed that the people in their underwear in a cantina are usually the people who shouldn't be in their underwear in a cantina?

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU SHOULD!!! Like Rosie O'Donnell in a half-shirt or a mini-skirt. UUGH!!!

Drat, there goes my hope of matching wits with Yogi and Booboo (on Naboo or Nabooboo as it's fondly called, of course) in a cosmic game of Picnic Baskets.
