Thread: New idea for cooperation with Bio-Engineers

I have an idea for enhancing the cooperation among Scouts, Artisans,& Bio-Engineers.


Over on the Bio-Engineering threads they are whining about upper level Engineers getting killed when they are sampling the DNA of big creatures. When they sample the smaller creatures they usually kill the host but when they get to levels 3 & 4 the creatures are tough enough to take the probe up the pooper & they get mad, so they turn around and kill the Engineer.


So here is a solution:


Have a new tool (DNA Sampler) that is created by Artisans. Bio-Engineers and Scouts can use these to sample DNA from creatues. The Scouts can give/trade to the Bio-Engineers. The Bio-Engineers now have their samples and they are safe and sound in their labs. XP would be made by the Artisans during crafting. The Scouts get XP for the sampling. The Bio-Engineers get XP using the templates.


It would also be nice if the traps were fixed so they immobilized /incapacitated the target for 30-60 seconds. Then Scouts or Bio-Engineers could sample the DNA from their targets safely if they didn't want to kill it.

That's a good idea. I've always wanted to do some **edit** probage on a Fambaa. (Okay, not really. But the idea strikes me as amusing.)

It would be better for the BE correspondent to bring this up, but I'll mention it to the Scout dev when I talk to him next.

Completely disagree. I get VHQ samples at master. I don't want that ability taken away from me and given to every other scout with a tool.


I already have trivial clones at master (gurreck at clone 4 better) and trivial tissues at master (tensile is the only thing worth making, engr 4 can make all cloth).


The only thing I have left is VHQ DNA. Take that away and I start getting angry.

People just whine too much when things attack them. Use strategy, have guards (creatures or players) or just get some brawler skill. My lord everyone thinks they should have everything handed to them on a platter and there should be no difficulty associated with making things.

Oh, uh, a followup note: All BE"s are scouts. We're one of your hybreds. Kinda silly to move a skill DOWN a tree into the source class...er....

Zen,

It's just an idea. No one is taking anything away from you guys.

And we recognize that BEs are scouts. They don't have to be full scouts, but they can be scouts. So working together isn't a bad thing, is it?

The more people thinking about the problems of a particular profession, the more likely we will be of solving it.

Ok, how about this? Make it a Ranger ability / tool. I hear they are complaining about not having anything new to do.

BE requires hunting 4 so we all are scouts. Hunting is where harvesting goes so...that's where it would be one would assume...


The trouble is that you're suggesting moving a skill from an elite to a base. If the skill is to have any sellability it would have to create very good samples. If it makes very good samples my master skills have just become diminished.


Currently VHQ DNA is the only reason to get master BE really. You get basically nothing else of any use. If suddenly lots of scouts have this ability then good quality DNA becomes more common and every novice BE can buy it without ever bothering to master. All us masters are out 15 wasted char points.


You also have to consider a balance perspective. BE requires a lot of points invested to get novice, two base classes and 4 boxes each plus novice (44 sp). DNA is actually a powerful skill that can outright kill creatures. If every scout suddenly can do this.........that's a lot of power to throw out there to everyone with 15 skill points or anyone that has scout already as a pre-req for their original goal.

No problem.

I honestly have no clue about what the issues are with the BEs...all I know is that you guys have the same problems the Rangers and Commandos do, and it ain't pretty.

So anything we can do to help, let us know.

Actually, I was just hoping to create some chance to work together. I'm not sure why getting DNA causes a creature to die. Never seen anyone dying from DNA samples on CSI. Shouldn't extracting DNA be much like harvesting? And I never wanted to take away from the BE's. Even IF scouts/rangers could sample DNA, they wouldn't have the skill to do anything with it. The BE's would be able to take that DNA and do their magic with it. Maybe have it so that BE's that take their own samples get a much better quality sample, so that their spawn is much stronger. Just tossing ideas around.
