Greetings fellow scouts, and fishermen (and women).

I thoughtI would post on some things that would make the noble art of fishing more enjoyable, not that it isnt enjoyable at the moment

  • As the user progresses up the scout profession, they get more proficient at fishing (as it is, a scout is as good a fisherman/women, as a dancer, or bounty hunter), or maybe a seperate 'bonus' fishing discipline/profession, that requires very little skill points, but a LOT of time. perhaps being able to use a command, to find what fish are in the area, and what bait they go for.

  • Fish could be stuffable, this would tie in well with the post, someone(sorry cant remember name :S), made on Taxidermy for scouts.

  • Certain 'High Level' fish could contain items, such as random items you would find in carnivourous fish, crafting components such as Teeth, scales, fins, or perhaps things that the fish has been eating, ie fingers, toes, etc, lol

  • An interesting one, that would add some risk, would be a possiblity that someone fishing, would have the chance of landing an aggressive <insert water creature here> that would attack the fisher, and possibly contain higher resources or items.

  • A fishing quest would be great for the future scout terminals "A chef needs these kinds of meat for a celebratory dinner", go to a certain planet, and catch a number of fish, quests could have rewards based on the difficulty of the area being fished, and the distance the scout has to travel to get to this location. This would be great, as new fish would have to be added, that only exist in certain areas.

  • A fish size system could be implemented, where each fish caught has a different size/weight, this would open all sorts of avenues, for player events, such as fishing competitions, and would be great for decoration, ie, Trophy fish for decorations, would have their weight/size listed. Fish could also give scouting experience 'based on their size/weight', though i do not know how the promised scouting experience from fishing is going to be calculated. (time fishing or on each successful landing?)

  • Different types of fishing rods, deep water rods, beach rods, etc, for catching different types of fish, these would not affect the type of fish caught, only the chance of succesfully landing it. More high end rods, requiring more materials to make, thereby selling for a higher price.

  • Rare fish, where a certain number can only be caught in each area per day.

  • A small but nice touch, NPC fishermen hanging around in certain areas, that could give tips on good fishing locations, or tips on how to catch fish, they could give the option of a fishing tutorial, as there seem to be a large number of people that cant figure out how to start fishing, and then dont bother about it. (no offence intended to anyone, took me 10min to figure out how to fish :S). These NPCs could also be the trainers for the fishing discipline/profession.

  • A good one for the RP's, furniture that can be carried and placed, for example, a 'lawn chair' that can actually be placed back down once it has been picked up, these could perhaps give bonuses to fishing chances.

  • Perhaps fishing special moves? Fast Reel, Overcharge cast, Treat bait (to prevent sogginess), these could use action points, that could be lessened by the use of a 'chair'.

To finish off, a system, to try and minimise the amount of AFK macroing that can be done on fishing, so that it doesnt become like fishing in UO was, were a skill that should have take months upon months to max, was maxed in a week, by people using '8x8' macros.

Well, hope if gave some of you some ideas one what could be done, with this promising, and entertaining feature of SWG. You are welcome to post any thought, or ideas on what you think would make fishing even more enjoyable for those of us, who feel more at home with a fishing rod, then with a rifle.
