Thread: Foraging and Fishing

As you can tell from my name, I am a fishing enthusiast. But I can't fish nearly as much as I'd like! Why? No Bait! So far, the only sources for bait that I am aware of are foraged bait and chum bait from the fillet process. Far from providing ample bait, these two seem to only provide a source of frustration. I am trying to promote fishing as an enjoyable pass time, and it it, but it is nearly impossible to get enought bait!

So I am open to suggestions, but I wanted to mention two ideas:

1) Targettted Foraging: /forage: bait

This would let me get something useful from foraging instead of the garbage I destroy daily trying to get to bait. (it would be nice if even some of the foraged foods were desired by other players)

2) Cooked Bait: for example Rodian Wrigglers

Say, 3 metal, 5 meat, 2 hides...3 uses experimentable to 6 uses.

Heck, put it in the Chef line (though I think it belongs in the scout survival line), put it anywhere at all, just put something like this in(if this already exists, please TELL me about it.)

I'm open to any other suggestions or already implimented features I'm not aware of.

Fin,

These are all great ideas.

Fin, I forage almost all the time, and get lots of bait alot of it I destroy cause I need foraged food for my pet, but send me an in-game mail and we can make a buisness arrangement. What planet are, of all the planets I have been on Tatooine has the most fishing bait. Even though ther is no water.

RoboFish, what do you mean by no water on Tatooine? I know of at least 3 places where I go fishing when I need a break from Tailoring. One place os a bit to the east of Anchorhead, about a 5 minute run even for me with no scout skills letting me climb hills faster. The other is west and a bit north of Mos Espa. And the last is about halfway between Mos Taike and Mos Eisley but a bit to the east of both rather than in a straight line between the two cities. I have caught TONS of fish at all 3 spots, and the oasis design is really very pretty.

I can't be the only one that knows about these places and I imagine there are more that I just have not found yet. Anyone else care to comment?

What if the Dev's could alter Foraging in such a way to allow for geography to play into it? If they were, for some reason, opposed to allowing us to specify what we wanted to forage then maybe we could have an increased chance of foraging bait type items while within a certain range of water?

For instance:

1. Foraging within 5-10 meters of a body of water increases the chance of foraging insects (grasshoppers, beetles, etc.) by 20%

2. Foraging within 0-5 meters of a body of water increases the chance of foraging waterborne insects (could widen the available types of insects at this point to justify the increased chance: add Dragonflys, larvae etc to thedatabase since they are more likely to be found in or around the immediate vicinity of water)

3. Foraging within 0-5 meters also grants chance to forage frogs and other amphibious creatures.

My point being. The fish wouldn't be there if there wasn'tfood readily available therefore that same food should/could/would be available to us to use as bait.

Just a thought in addition to Fin's....who's ideas are probably more practical than mine.

I don't know if this helps much, but I usually get plenty of bait by shorelines... in areas where there are the tall reed-like grass.

I as well have done plenty of fishing, but have recently started to focus more oncollectingXP. I think it would be great to be able to "EAT" fish as well. This could open up a whole seafood market in SWG.

I would love to throw a fishing party where everyone can enjoy some good seafood from the catch as well as good conversation.

Robofish, Great! I'm on Naboo and I'm not sure I can make it worth your while to come here just for bait, but I do have a vendor and I'll send you an email in game to try and set something up

I'm Ti-kar in game, btw

Sounds like good ideas.. I tend to get too much bait nowadays at Master Ranger. But I need the food for my 2 pets. hehe.. Anyone know exactly how we should sell this fish?

Credit per unit wise, what to /shout, where to go? I think it's.. like, only chefs can use it?

"Cooked bait". Sounds like lures to me, baby!

I know last time I went fishing, the Carolina Rigged soft worms weren't doing crud for me, but the spinner landed me a 26 inch rainbow trout. Perhaps they could do something like that?
