Thread: The benefits of Scouting..
I just started playing this game 3 days ago. I love it. This is one of the reasons why:
Yesterday, I left my Home Planet of Corellia and headed out to Naboo. I had no mission to complete, no objective in mind. It was for the sake of exploration. I landed on Moenia, and instead of exploring the city, just started heading West.
I figured that the so-called 'Lake Retreat' would be a nice place to visit, so instead of taking a shuttle, I decided towalk it in the wild. It's a fairly long trip, especially when you're just starting out and must avoid most creatures along the way. Instead of taking a straight vector, I choose to walk along the south shores of Naboo, and then curve up, thus taking a rough "L" shape path.
I can't begin to describe the beauty of this game. I'm not sure if it was the smooth green rolling plains, or the soft breeze that seemed to come from the shore. It may have been the wild animals, scurrying about their business, or the wild butterflies flapping away as I passed. Soon, I was in what seemed to be a Swamp Land, filled with vines and sounds that could only frighten a novice player like myself.
Then nightfall came, and the moon (well, it was a planet of some sort) lit the soft hills as the stars illuminated the dark blue sky. I have never witnessed such an incrediblesight in a game. Soon after, the sky clouded over, and it started raining. Believe me, when its the first time you hear thunder and are desperately trying to avoid those fiercesome creatures when you're all alone and new to the game, it's scary! So I set camp and waited for the rain to pass.
The morning was a gray and hazy. It fit the mood perfectly, as I stumbled on yet more swamp lands. And then I met the Gungans. I couldn't believe it. It started with a few ruins amidst many vines and trees, but soon, taller, more defined structures appeared. The level of detail was crisp, and the general 'feel' of the wild was there. I encountered Boss Nass which, to some of you veteran players, may seem easy, but when you've barely worked yourself up the first few branches of the Novice Scout Tree and couldn't trust your pistol if your life depended on it, it's a big feat.
After camping a bit in the ruined Gungan Sacred City, I headed North towards the Lake Retreat, where I had to pass through Mountains. It was the first time I had actually been in mountaineous terrain, so naturally I had to climb to the top of the highest peak I could find. I nearly died along the way, stumbling into a nest of creatures which followed me for a good 15 minutes, but it was worth it. The journey through the mountains was simply breathtaking.
What seemed to be a lake appeared soon after, and within minutes, I had reached the 'Lake Retreat'. This is by far one of the most beautiful areas of the game I've seen so far. It's an incredibly small town withstone buildings and a view that can only make one's heart halt.
So far, I have only been on Corellia, Tatooine, and Naboo. I can only *begin* to imagine what some of the game's points of interests on other foreign planets are like, and what adventure awaits for me.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that on Corellia, I've seen many Novice Scouts like myself hunting away day in and day out for experience. I myself have attempted to grind a bit in order to gain the Intermediate Pistol Skill, but have since stopped. But friends and fellow Scouts, do not deny the roots of your profession. We are scouts. Our "goal" is to explore, to wander, to travel. Our mission is to seek adventure in the wild, foraging along the way, setting camps, hiking through plains, mountains, and swimming in lakes.
Let's not forget that.
Admiral.
I'm glad to hear you are taking this approach. You are definitely going to have a much better time because of it.
Best of luck in your explorations.

Admiral,
Now you know why I call Naboo home.
It's the prettiest planet in the galaxy. ![]()
