Thread: Camping Macro for Scouts

I'm not much good at this kind of stuff, so I'll throw it out there to the community at large --- we scouts need a macro for camping. A great outline of how it should look is posted on SWGCenter.com (look up the article called "Macroing Made Easy... Usually" that provides a macro for sampling that was posted earlier today... great job!).

It would need to include the following commands:

1. Setting up camp

2. A pause of 15 - 20 minutes (whatever is optimal for xp gain)

3. Dismantling the camp

4. A loop for the above commands (lather, rinse, repeat)

The idea here is to be able to set up a macro that will allow you to find a nice spot, hit the macro, and go to bed/leave for work (at your own risk, of course --- you assume the risk that you could get jumped by a mob). If we can develop a macro for one hour, we can duplicate it for however long we know we are going to be AFK, thus gaining Survival xp while we're AFK and focusing our actual playing time on actually playing!

If it can be done, someone in the community will do it! Post your macros here for a comprehensive guide to Survival xp all in one place!

Thanks for your input!

Traps can't be macro'd. I don't think camps will fare any better. Hard reality.

A few people have posted camp macros before...but I haven't used one yet because the pause numbers I've seen vary insanely, from 300 to 6000. I don't know what would actually work with multiperson camps, and I don't know how they account for the fact that there is no console command to disband a camp. I just did what most other people have done, set up a camp, go do something else, come back in 30 minutes and repeat.

If you have medic skills it helps to wound yourself using /tendwound as this will boost your survival xp gain a little bit.

The underlining problem here is that there doesn't seem to be a command that disbands the camp. You have to use the radial. This in its self prevents macroing in the triditional sense.

And you can macro trap usage (not crafting). Check out the threads on setting up macros using the /ui action toolbarSlotXX and /ui action toolbarPaneXX.

I wonder if "there isn't a command to disband camps" is true, or if "we don't know of a command to disband camps" is really the case... going to log on and play around with it a bit tonight.

The reason some of the pause times look insanely large in a lot of the macros is because the time is in seconds. For example, if one was to set up a camp, then pause for 20 minutes in our camping macro, the pause time would be like 1200 seconds. Don't let the numbers scare you off!

Anyhow... let's dig in as a scouting community and see if we can find the not-so-obvious workarounds for this.

There is a thread with how do it somewhere, but the board is so slow and I got so many hits using search, I'll just give you short version here. Thanks to those that have posted before.

First thing you need to know is that the camp will disband automatically aftermore then45 minutes. I'm not sure exactly how long, but less then 60. This is the missing part of the macro, since there is no disband command.

So, build yourself a whole pile of your best camps. I'm not sure how many lines you can put in your macro, but that and your inventory space are about the only limits to number.

Lets say you put 24 camps into toolbar 5 (the one you get to by pressing CTRL-F5). I'm assuming you have the bar pulled down so you see two lines, for use with F1-F12 and Shift-F1-F12).

Now start building your macro. First, shift to toolbar 5 using the numbers of the 12 'panes' (00-11): /ui action toolbarPane08 ** check this as I can't remember if you need odd or even numbers**

Now build your camp by triggering the first button (00-23): /ui action toolbarSlot00

Now pause, for about 60 minutes (number represents seconds): /pause 3600

Now do it again, and put it all together.

/ui action toolbarPane08;/ui action toolbarSlot00; pause 3600; /ui action toolbarSlot01; pause 3600; /ui action toolbarSlot02; pause 3600 ...

Note that the Slot goes up by 1 each time to use a new camp. You can use either the ';' to seperate the commands, or enter (ie. a new line). Finally, if you want to, you can add /sit and /logout to quit the game when your macro is done.

Word of warning, I have not yet set up this macro, although I intend to do so soon, and I may have missed something. There is no guarantee of your safety while doing this, and I have no idea what will happen if you get incapped or dead.

Finally, is this an exploit? I don't think so, it's their macro system after all, and camping XP gain is way too slow if you are pretty good at not getting beat up all the time. YMMV.

I had no idea they disbanded on their own.. seeing as how I have never been able to stay connected for a solid hour (grumble). But you definatly have something there. If the camp truly disbands, then you have your macro, my friend. Be forewarned.. they nerfed the living hell out of sampling due to AFK crap.. they will not think twice to slap us with the bat as well (again).

This is the thread I was looking for earlier, where the info came from. Note that I made an error in switching panes, and it's only /ui action toolbarPane00 to 05, corresponding to the 6 panels.

Well, it certainly does disband, never fear there, but the time is not precise. Still, though, at an hour a camp, the most you could hope for while a scout would be 1000/hr wilderness survival experience, while most of you doing the grind will only get 800/hr WSXP. Heheh, not much of an exploit even if it is one. I'm soooo glad someone figured out how to execute hotkeys. Things are looking up. And better than all these attempt to avoid downtime is just to camp when you need to and don't worry about it. You wont' be far behind your other skills when you reach master scout if you just camp consistently during your training.

I agree it's not much of an exploit, but it's all we've got. See my note in the other thread though regarding being bumped off while afk ... maybe.

If the macro does work, we can get the roadblock that is Survival out of the way while we sleep, work, or whatever. Without it I figure I will need about 20 days played, or about6 weeksrealtime to get rid of the last block between me and master scout. This is based on getting about 200 per camp on a hunting trip, with about 5 camps per night, and about 3 or 4 nights playing per week.

Or, you can camp and disband, camp and disband, etc. while watching TV, reading, mowing tha lawn ... now it's a 'macro' you run manually. Is this considered better?

Nostromo N50 gamepad.
Setup a macro that presses all 12 keys (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,-+ SHIFT, ....), put a pause of 1200 (20 minutes)get into SWG, put camps into each slot, hit the key the macro is tied to, viola. Multi camp experience maxes out after around 24 minutes, camp disbands automatically after around 40-50 minutes).

Here's a novel idea, get a little help with your survival XP. Make a couple friends. Grab an artisan that needs surveying XP, and a medic that needs medical XP. Just with 3 people in your camp you've accelerated your XP gain by at least 2x. Add in the action healing the medic wil do for the artisan surveying, and I'm sure you can find something to do in the camp as well, and you are capping XP in 5 minutes. You'll be able to hit Survival 4 in a3 or 4evenings at the most (this is factoring in returning to town for training, supplies, etc.) You've got a couple players around to socialize with. (*gasp* socializing in an MMORPG. Cripes, are you positively insane?)

Sorry, but I just don't understand the complaints with Survival XP at all. You all know exactly how best to get it, but for some reason you continue to ignore it. Yes, hunting groups are usually too problematic, but that's not the only reason to group up. Try to make a few friends. Help them out, they help you out. Everyone wins, and there are no nerfs from people Macroing XP for 12 hours straight.

Ok, this is what I am doing:

1) Create a numer of multiperson camps (I use 12).

2) Create the following macro:

/ui action toolbarSlot01;/pause 5400; ...

Note: I use 5400 because it currently equals 45 minutes. Repeat 12 times for 12 camps and don't forget to increment the slot number.

3) Place a shortcut to the macro in slot 00.

4) Place a shortcut to a camp in 12 other consecutive slots.

5) Press F1 and you are on your way to survival XP.

I have to say that this is a last resort for me! I am one box away from Master Scout and I bet you can guess which one it is! To get the best survival XP I believe you should group with peers and be the only scout there. You will get the XP quickly. I just got sick and tired of waiting on this one (been well over a week now). I normally solo so this one is the slowest of all. I have been considering moving on to Ranger, but with it being sooooo slow getting to Master Scout, I don't know if I can handle it...
