Hey guys, being disillusioned by the recent camp nerf, and decreasing the usefulness of a profession that now has no real need but to further towards hybrid professions or for harvesting resources, I thought that, if it hasn’t been proposed before adding new advantages of Terrain navigation.

What do you guys feel about using Terrain navigation as not only going faster up hills, but increasing the effectiveness of vehicles going up slopes by the Scout’s knowledge of “contour hugging?”

Through the scout’s understanding of the lay of the land, he/she can more effectively climb hills and mountains faster than before.

This would again put more emphasise on the usefulness of a much declining profession.

Any ideas and suggestions, or a good ol’ “naw” would be welcomed too.

I noticed this on a trip to Endor, riding my Swoop in a group.

Even going uphill, my Swoop still left the speederbikes behind me.

Strife,

We've proposed that Scouts get to apply their TN skill to animal mounts, not vehicles. This would give us a reason to use them in addition to taking some of the sting out of vehicles.

Still working on this one.

I've always seen terrain negotiation as a partially "mental" skill. If you've ever hiked in a wooded or other wilderness area, you'd know that while being physically fit helps you travel effectively, knowing where and how to move with the enivornment is just as important (if not more so). However like others on the forum,I'd prefer terrain negotiation help player mounts rather than vechiles. There are two main reasons for this, theis first practical and the other aesthetic.

From a practical standpoint, the SWG vehicles all hover over the ground (to be geeky I think they are called "repulsor-lift" vehicles), While they would still have some limitations associated with terrain, most of the "tricks"of theterrain negotiation skill wouldn't even apply to them. In contrast, guiding a mount through the rough terrian would have very similar ramifications as walking it yourself. From an aesthetic point-of-view, Scouts and Rangers are the two of the most closely related professions to the "natural-world" of SWG. It would be a nice synergy if they had some benifit for choosing a mount over a vehicle. Please note, I'm not trying to force anyone into owning a mount, but it would be nice ifthose Scouts/Rangers who do recieve some small advantage.
