Thread: What am I doing wrong in trapping?
I'm having trouble with trapping as well. ![]()
I do know that you can throw more than 1 type of trap at a critter and get xp. What I've been doing is attacking with a low level BE pet, throwing traps and getting both CH and trapping xp. It's going slowly though, I'm a 4/2/4/4 scout, with scouting xp maxed for a long time.
Ahhhhhhhhhh
sadddight.
I get now. thanks.
Bummer tho. I was hoping to pick up some trapping xp while doing my wooly hide hunting. Sigh. Oh well. So, only use traps on things that cone blue. Got it now. Thanks!

As a follow-up on Delta's scouting guide...
A good trick to use for Trapping XP is to visit Yavin IV. The creatures that live there are almost always in combat with one another, so what you can do is find two critters that are fighting and lob traps at them. In most cases they'll be distracted with one another, and will ignore you. Once one of them dies, the other may well aggro you, so pay attention to the overhead display for approaching arrows.
But while they're fighting, you'll be able to wrack up the Trapping XP. I did this last night on Dathomir, hucking traps at an Enraged Rancor that was fighting with a group of Malklocs. I was getting 1,536 XP per trap (I was using glow-wire traps), and was also hitting it with bleeds and occasional pistol fire so I'd be able to harvest it when it died. I also bled and fired at the malklocs for the same reason. ![]()
By the time the rancor died I'd filled my entire Trapping II box on Ranger, and had managed to max out my XP.
So taking advantage of high-level creatures already in combat is a great approach. But as Delta wrote in the guide, pay attention to the traps you're using versus the level of the creature you're attacking. If you're not getting XP, try a different trap for give up -- the critter's probably too high a level to be affected by the trap in question.
